The Audience Development and Analytics department drives strategic and operational decisions for The Washington Post.  This highly visible team applies analytics and research to support strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational support company wide.



As our Analytics Manager you'll report to the Director of Analytics and work in close collaboration with the newsroom, marketing, product, engineering, advertising and finance departments on a diverse range of projects that have a critical and strategic impact on all aspects of the company.  The Analytics Manager supports the business priorities of The Post's Marketing organization. This position is part of a team of analytics experts who are responsible for providing data informed insights and recommendations in support of The Post's marketing strategies and operations. As an Analytics Manager, you may contribute to any number of projects, initiatives, and analyses with a specific focus on digital marketing supporting The Post's subscription business.



Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of data analysts - delegate tasks/requests, ensure quality work, and provide professional development.
  • Serve as a key collaborator and thought leader with our Marketing/ Newsroom/ Advertising and other partners on various initiatives and projects.
  • Visualize, communicate and present key metrics to various stakeholders across the company, including to executive leadership.
  • Support subscription business forecasting across current and prospective marketing and product activities considering ad-supported revenue.
  • Design and develop automated and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and models to help guide business decisions.
  • Regularly partner with internal engineering departments and external data teams (Apple News, Apple App Store, Google Play Store) to ensure acquisition performance data is accurate and up to date.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline
  • 6+ years professional experience in data analytics.
  • 2+ years of experience managing data analysts/data analytics professionals.
  • Experience in subscription-based business preferred.
  • Experience with digital marketing analytics - Attribution (last-click, multi-touch etc.) reporting, experimentation, and acquisition and retention modeling.
  • Experience analyzing various marketing channels (e.g., search, social, email)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work seamlessly with multiple stakeholders in a cross functional team of analysts, engineers, marketing specialists, newsroom, and product managers.
  • Strong competency in leadership, managing execution, building relationships, generating talent and organizational capability. Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in SQL. Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL on cloud is a plus.
  • Expertise in R, Python data analysis packages to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets.
  • Expertise in Big Data tools and distributed data/computing tools like Hadoop (or other big-data solutions), Map/Reduce, S3, Hive, Spark etc.
  • Expertise in Tableau, R Shiny, D3 or other visualization/ reporting tools
  • Expertise with enterprise Web Analytics systems and media/ publishing industry experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in A/B testing concepts and experience executing A/B test in the marketing area.
