Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a reporter to anchor The Technology 202, our daily newsletter focused on tech policy in Washington and how it affects major stakeholders outside the Beltway. Driven by scoops, insights and sophisticated analysis, the Tech 202 aspires to be the first read of the day for those interested in the tug-of-war between Washington and Silicon Valley.

The ideal candidate will have several years of experience covering technology policy and a strong grasp of the tension points between regulators and the industry, from antitrust to privacy to content moderation. We are seeking someone who can develop relationships with the people who are shaping the decisions about how to rein in the tech industry's power. The reporter should be deeply sourced on Capitol Hill, the executive agencies and/or the tech lobbying and association world. The person should be comfortable parsing congressional reports, lawsuits and company blog posts for nuggets of insight -- and have the metabolism to write daily.

Zeroing in on critical incremental developments and connecting the dots with broad issues and themes are the path to success in this role. Using humor and voice, the ideal candidate should be able to write about the wonky and sometimes complicated details of tech policy in an engaging way.

The newsletter is part of The Post's growing technology team. The ability to collaborate well with other reporters and editors is essential.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and is on a Sunday-to-Thursday schedule. Once we resume normal operations later this year, it will not be eligible for remote work.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and three writing samples, in addition to any newsletter writing, to our jobs portal by June 14. The cover letter should be addressed to Deputy Business Editor Zachary Goldfarb, Technology Editor Christina Passariello, and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
