THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a AMMUNITION INSPECTOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2281000 and is part of the VA USPFO, National Guard.

Responsibilities

As an Ammunition Inspector, WG-6501-09, you will perform the below duties:
  • Conducts pre-issue inspection of ammunition items prior to issue. Checks each item for restrictions or suspensions.
  • Inspects ammunition, performs maintenance, care, preservation, shipping and storage operations, assuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, drawings, etc. during operations.
  • Responsible for the requirements of all ammunition management documentation. Researches, analyzes, and completes the proper and required documentation of ammunition transfer records, surveillance records, ammunition condition reports, quality deficiency reports, magazine data cards and numerous other documentation and/or reports.
  • Assists in the National Level Ammunition Capability (NLAC) resupply and excess management process as required. Receives shipments of all types of ammunition.
  • General knowledge of ammunition processes, regulations, and inspection requirements. Develops technical expertise through schooling, technical publications and personal experience of ammunition processes, regulations and inspection requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/SPC - E8/MSG) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E8/MSG), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted (E1/PVT - E8/MSG)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the handling, storage, examining, transporting, and identifying of ammunition and explosives, as well as the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions including policy and procedures, and experience which demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to apply safety standards.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicant musthave at least 18 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-08 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
  • Experience interpreting wiring diagrams and facility blueprints, as well as scale indications in a toxic or radioactive environment
  • Experience planning work sequences and determining the requirements for serviceability of equipment, and knowing the impact of repairs on related integral devices
  • Experience interpreting technical publications with the ability to assist subordinates or other employees in interpreting technical publications applicable to the detection, identification and destruction of numerous types of explosives and toxic materials
