Summary

The primary purpose of the DEAI Program Advisor position is to serve as a primary advisor to the CDIBO, assisting in building the infrastructure of the new department as well as the implementation, management, coordination, and fostering of effective DEAI initiatives and programs that advance the Gallery's mission and strategic priorities. Responsible, for providing administrative support including scheduling, correspondence, budget management, purchasing, and other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

As the DEAI Program Advisor, you will:
  • Conduct research related to museum and DEAI best practice, including but not limited to consultant qualifications, demographics of the field and comparator populations, and training and engagement strategies.
  • Participate as a leader and influencer in shaping Gallery culture as one rooted in Gallery values and characterized by transparency, communication, collaboration, and mutual respect.
  • Model the Gallery's strong values of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion; curiosity and continuous learning; empathy and generosity of spirit; integrity; working to the highest professional standards; and agility and responsiveness.
  • Establish the administrative infrastructure of the new DEAI department at the Gallery. Manage the CDIBO schedule and providing logistical support for meetings as needed. Monitor the overall DEAI budget to ensure compliance with institutional financial expectations.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-343-12. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is at least one year of experience (combined), equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, implementing, managing, coordinating, and fostering of effective DEAI initiatives and programs that advance the mission and strategic priorities for an organization.

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to new and existing programs and processes sufficient to identify, collect, analyze, and present information necessary to assess needs, barriers, and opportunities and assist CDIBO in developing recommendations for improvement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of DEAI theory and practice in the nonprofit cultural sector, preferably as applied to art museums.
  • Demonstrated experience working at a collection-based institution, coupled with critical awareness of their problematic roots in colonialism and imperialism and the challenges of acquiring, preserving, interpreting, and displaying works of art in an inclusive, culturally sensitive way.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with budget planning, justification, and execution sufficient to manage the DEAI budget to ensure compliance with institutional financial expectations.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration under merit promotion procedures.
