Job Announcement

Under the supervision of the Chief Pilot or Division Commander, pilots a rotor-wing aircraft in varying weather conditions to perform aerial surveillance, crime detection, crime prevention, rescue, and related public safety work; and performs related duties as required. Graduation from high school or a GED issued by a state department of education; must have completed at least 1500 hours of helicopter pilot-in-command, 100 hours of unaided night flights, 300 hours of helicopter pilot-in-command experience in the last five years or 100 hours of pilot-in-command experience in the last 12 months.

Illustrative Duties

  • As a single pilot, flies a turbine powered rotary wing aircraft in varying weather conditions, performing single-pilot Instrument Flying Rules (IFR) operations when necessary;
  • Performs all flight operations in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
    regulations and in adherence with all pertinent divisional and departmental standard operating procedures;
  • Flies aerial surveillance, crime detection and crime prevention missions;
  • Transports critical trauma patients;
  • Participates in rescue operations;
  • Performs routine daily maintenance of aircraft and equipment;
  • Completes and files unit reports and aircraft logs.

Employment Standards

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Graduation from high school or a GED issued by a state department of education; must have completed at least 1500 hours of helicopter pilot-in-command, 100 hours of unaided night flights, 300 hours of helicopter pilot-in-command experience in the last five years or 100 hours of pilot-in-command experience in the last 12 months.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a valid FAA commercial rotor craft certificate with instrument rating;
Possession of a valid FAA Class II (or higher) medical certificate;
Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driver's license check, pre-employment medical evaluation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, tuberculosis test and public safety background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to exercise sound judgment under hazardous and stressful work conditions. Ability to maintain a high level of ethical standards. Possession of a valid FAA Class II (or higher) medical certificate. Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license. Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation prior to appointment. Applicants must be able to produce valid documents of completed flight hours, i.e., flight books, at the time of scheduled interview.
