Assistant Director, Technology Services (Position # 100980)

DUTIES: The Assistant Director for Information Technology Services is responsible for the information  technology operations and systems (infrastructure, technical support and software engineering) within the  Department of Residential Facilities. Directs staff and secures other campus or off-campus contracted services to deliver all hardware support and all local and shared software services for the department technology network providing services to 250 staff, over 200 workstations, laptops, cell phones, and printers in multiple office, shop  and storeroom locations. The AD IT works closely with IT staff across the Division of Student Affairs and with  Facilities Management and the Division of Information Technology. The AD advises department leadership on  information technologies and serves on Department, Divisional and campus committees. The AD IT is  supervised by the Associate Director, Services. The Department of Residential Facilities is responsible for the  maintenance and housekeeping services for the College Park Campus’ 70+ residence halls, Greek chapter  houses and recreational facilities encompassing over 2 million square feet. 

Leadership & Supervision:

● Provides vision, direction and planning for all IT operations that support the Department’s functions, programs and initiatives. 

● Directly supervises 3 full time IT professionals; Manager for Network Operations, Senior Software Engineer and IT Support Assistant.

● Supports the department’s mission and strategic plan. Develops priorities and goals for the IT unit that supports the department’s goals and objectives.

● Provides department leadership in collaboration with Division of IT, Division of Student Affairs and Facilities Management in the implementation of campus-wide Integrated Work Management System (IWMS) to support the operational needs of our staff/users and our customers (Resident Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, RecWell, Conference and Visitor Services, Capstone on Campus Management).

● Collaborates with various campus entities to interpret and develop IT policies, guidance, and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, USM and UMD regulations and best practices. 

Technology

● Directs the department’s on-premise and cloud-hosted network environment and the maintenance of production, development, data storage and web servers. Responsible for the back up of all data. ● Directs the management, administration and development of specialized applications such as Tririga Facility Management System, Lenel Card Access System, AutoDesk CAD, HOBOs and other systems. ● Directs software development and production environments.

● Department representative to the consortium with Resident Life and Conferences and Visitor Services to provide a multi-department governed virtual server environment (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure “HCI” Consortium). 

Technology Development:

● Collaborate with department staff to understand unit needs and requirements, developing proposals and solutions to assist them in efficiently and effectively performing their work.

● Directs the development, testing, implementation and evaluation of client/server and web applications. ● Serves as application and database administrator for internal applications. Establishes and/or recommends development standards and procedures and protocols for a consistent cross-application computing environment.  

● Secures and integrates our technology systems with current and proposed IWMS/ERP systems, financial, payroll and leave, time and attendance, student residence, Records and Registration, data warehouse, IPTV, internet/wifi and other administrative information networks and systems.  

● Work with Employee and Administrative Services units to provide technology support and deliver training to improve the technology competence across the department.

Budget: 

● Oversee operational budget for the unit.

● Delegates to IT staff designated authority for technology related purchases.

● Evaluates requests for new hardware and software. Determine feasibility, cost and required support of each request.

● Develop and implement a multi-year replacement, upgrade and/or enhancement of department equipment and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Required:

● Bachelor’s degree in information technology management and administration, computer science.  ● Minimum 5 years full time experience in managing developing applications, and providing IT systems in a higher education or business environment. 

● Three years of supervision of IT staff. Commitment to the development of the technical, interpersonal and communications skills of the staff.

● Knowledge of Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) products or comparable facilities management or physical assets environments and/or applications. 

● Three years of experience in system engineering, needs analysis and business process/systems design, directing all phases of the software development cycle involving complex business applications design and implementation. 

● Two years of experience in all of the following areas: provision of server based applications and storage solutions to internal users and external customers; database administration or development within a local area network environment; administering or directing a secured local area network of greater than 50 PCs and added peripherals; development and maintenance of a web environment. 

● Experience with planning and deployment of various technological applications to organizational processes.

● Familiarity with general computer/network design, installation, troubleshooting and administration. ● Experience in disaster recovery planning. 

● Experience with IT security and compliance.

Maryland driver’s license with fewer than 6 points. Commitment to internal and external customer service. Preferred:

● Experience with understanding and using SQL Service, Oracle or comparable database design and application environments.

● Experience with managing a local or hosted website using DRUPAL.

● Strong problem solving skills.

● Experience in developing and/or facilitating technology training for staff.

● Experience in working in a diverse environment.

SALARY and BENEFITS – Starting salary, between $127,000 and $134,000. Benefits include 25 days annual and personal leave; 14 paid holidays; 15 days sick leave; tuition remission up to 8 credits per semester; choice of two retirement programs; and eligibility for a variety of group health insurance plans.
