This engineer would join The Post's news R&D team,  Lede Lab , to work collaboratively with UX designers, front-end developers and journalists across the newsroom to explore emerging technologies and rapidly prototype applications and storytelling approaches. Recent examples include  utilizing RunwayML and other machine learning software to visually represent poetry  text during Poetry Month,  prototyping an augmented gallery of The Post's historical inauguration covers  from 1881 to 2021 while experimenting with WebXR to find a solution accessible to any reader with a mobile device, and  using 5G and LTE support to remotely produce a video- and drone-driven story  of small businesses in the pandemic.

The role requires full-stack engineering experience, a user-first approach to building and scaling products, curiosity and interest in emerging technologies and experience or strong interest in news. Experience working iteratively with multidisciplinary teams, including product managers, engineers, designers and stakeholders and familiarity with Javascript, the React framework, Node.js or other common JS frameworks and experience on AWS is important.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom, but remote work may be possible.
