Project Specialist, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS)

National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) located in Arlington, VA seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Project Specialist, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS). JSHS is a U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force sponsored science, technology, engineering and mathematics competition where high school students conducting original research compete for scholarships and awards at 49 regional and national level.  This program is administered by the National Science Teaching Association. Project Specialist grant funded and at this time, position is remote based.

Requirements: Must be able to demonstrate a history of being detail oriented and successful in a fast pace and highly collaborative team environment.  Proficiency in Excel and CVENT is required. Candidate must get CITI certified within the first 30 days of hiring (Course and exam provided). 

Experience:

This position will support and collaborate with the JSHS Project Manager in managing and administrating the STEM activities and outreach activities associated with the JSHS Regional and National Symposia. This role will serve as the point person in relationship management for 49 Regional Directors throughout the competition cycle. The ideal candidate should have experience interfacing with a diverse range of stakeholder at varying levels.  Project Specialist will serve as lead for the scholarship program.

  • This role will build, monitor, and manage the CVENT registration components of the competition and will support the use of CVENT in all 49 regions. -Candidates that have a willingness to become CVENT certified within the first 90 days are preferred.
  • Candidate should have 3-5 years of customer relationship management and/or event planning experience or the equivalent in another related position(s). 
  • This role will oversee the administration of the Virtual Mentoring and programs designed to reach underserved students. Candidate should have some experience in virtual program planning and execution.

Additional Experience:

  • Candidates with experience in work environments that use Agile, SCRUM or KanBan Is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in working with Military or education, or with high school-aged student programming a plus. 
  • This is a highly collaborative team – candidates should have experience in using collaborative technology like G-Suite.  The ideal candidate for this role would be adaptive, responsive, and self-motivating.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong candidates will have experience using web-based platforms to organize and manage work efforts.
  • Must be able to utilize solution based technology as an overall strategy for process improvements. The ideal candidate will have experience in working collaboratively to identify and implement process improvements.
  • This role demands a high level of attention to detail both in data and in copy.  
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in exercising this detail with reviewing and preparing reports and results and/or financial based data.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong writing abilities and may be asked to provide a sample.  Experience in SOP and training material writing a plus.
  • This role is currently remote-based. Candidates should have some experience working in a remote environment or have the ability to adapt to a remote working environment.
