The Ridge School seeks to hire a Special Education Teacher for our Lourie Center School. If you want to make a difference in someone's life every day, consider a position with a team of professionals who are doing just that, making a difference.

As the Special Education Teacher, you will:

•Implement appropriate middle and high school curriculums, lesson plans and IEP goals.
•Provide a therapeutic milieu conducive to teaching students with emotional disturbance.
•Demonstrate knowledge of emotional disturbance and ability to establish therapeutic
relationships with students as it contributes to critical success factors of the organization.
•Administer effective and appropriate strategies during a crisis intervention.
•Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance own knowledge of special education, curriculum modifications, and emotional disturbance and instructional strategies .
•Demonstrate knowledge of the nature and needs of exceptional children, normal developmental processes, curriculum development and programming, psychodynamic and behavioral management skills, psycho-educational assessment and special education record keeping and monitoring tools.
•Demonstrate skills in oral and written presentation of diagnostic findings, progress reports, anecdotal records, development of behavioral goals and objectives for individual educational plans and weekly lesson plans.
•Work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team by being open and responsive to other's input.

Qualifications Include:
•Must have a bachelors degree (Masters preferred) and ability to be certified by MDSE to hold a provisional or Standard I teaching certificate.
•A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a special education setting with students with emotional disabilities
•Active BLS CPR card
•Knowledge and understanding of symptomology and etiology of emotional disturbance
•Experience developing and implementing IEPs
•Excellent classroom behavior management skills
•Excellent communication skills with supervisors, colleagues, parents, and students
•Strong ability to establish appropriate therapeutic relationships with students
•Excellent crisis intervention and de-escalation skills with students
•Strong ability to interpret formal and informal testing and assessment results
•High ability to manage stress without negatively impacting job performance
•Highly dependable in terms of work attendance and assigned work hours
