Policy, Research and International Affairs (PRI) serves AARP by leading the development and articulation of AARP's public policies, research and insights on the 50+ and issues that matter to them, importing best global practices, and strengthening AARP's reputation for world class expertise and thought leadership.

Summary

The AARP Public Policy Institute is seeking a graduate student for its Family, Home, and Community (FHC) team. As part of the team, you will acquire practical work experience providing support on multiple projects focused on promoting equity in long-term services and supports (LTSS) and family caregiving. This position is ideal for candidates looking to develop research expertise and policy development knowledge in LTSS and family caregiving including Home and Community-based Services, Nursing Home Care, and Medicaid LTSS. You will be a valued contributor to the work of the FHC team and will work closely with Director of Caregiving and the Senior Policy Research Analyst.

Responsibilities

Specific tasks may include the following:
  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative research assignments to support the FHC's team work on promoting equity in LTSS and family caregiving
  • Contributing to data analyses and write-up of findings
  • Appling innovative thinking and problem-solving to policy challenges
  • Preparing policy briefs, articles, and/or blog posts
  • Coordinating with various internal partners and external stakeholders
  • Providing project support for events and products
  • Designing, writing, editing, and fact-checking reports and presentations
  • Creating visual presentations of evaluation processes and results
  • Participating and contributing to initiatives within the FHC team
Requirements

Prospective interns must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program.
Compensation and Benefits

Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.

As a result of the COVID pandemic, all interviews will be held virtually and all non-essential employees will continue to work remotely until further notice.
