MITRE is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join our Homeland Security Center (HLSC) to focus on providing System Engineering expertise to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sponsors. Our HLSC contains staff with diverse skillsets across the Systems Engineering Spectrum. MITRE is looking for someone to join the team and help enhance these skillsets and contribute to the growth of our Systems Engineering capabilities and offerings. MITRE is looking for someone with deep skills in two or more Systems Engineering areas, who understands how to apply them to the full project life cycle. We are looking for candidates who understand how to define and analyze challenging sponsor challenges and apply processes, approaches, and appropriate toolsets to solving them. The Lead Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise and strategic leadership during the design and development of complex systems and enterprise solutions and will help in defining architectures, requirements, and conceptual designs and in performing verification and validation. He/she must be able to guide sponsors through an SE life-cycle (eg, waterfall, agile, operations and maintenance, commercial off the shelf, iterative) and integrate appropriately with Risk Management, Program Management, and Change Management infrastructure and operations. As a Lead System Engineer, you will provide technical assistance and consulting support for the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and system-of-systems for DHS sponsors. Specifically, you will: Contribute to teams with expertise in one or more of the following technologies and practice areas: Systems Engineering, requirements engineering, systems architecture, test and evaluation, system design, system life-cycle management, quality management, and process analysis and improvement. Provide technical and/or task or project leadership for DHS projects as needed. Be able to interface with technical experts and leaders in DHS and MITRE organizations and build trusted relationships. Collaborate and participate in activities to ensure knowledge creation/sharing and integration within and across all work programs as appropriate. Support MITRE's efforts to develop work programs with new DHS sponsors Support internal activities to develop capabilities in Systems Engineering, to potentially include, requirements engineering, test and evaluation, artificial intelligence, data analytics, model-based engineering, system security engineering, and others. Promote the advancement and application of model-based engineering, complex systems engineering, systems-of-systems engineering and systems thinking. The position is based in McLean, VA and may require on-site work at DHS facilities. Minimum Qualifications : BS and 8 years related experience Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. Required Qualifications : BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Information Technology or Engineering field Broad experience across the Systems Engineering life cycle, including multiple life cycles, with a minimum of 8 years of related experience Depth in at least 2 Systems Engineering areas, with an understanding of the full life cycle Eligibility for DHS Fitness and a DoD Top Secret Clearance Strong written and oral communications skills. Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work well in teams and independently Ability to work well with sponsors Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Work, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio. Preferred Qualifications : MS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Information Technology or Engineering field Broad experience across the Systems Engineering life cycle, including multiple life cycles, with at least 10 years of related experience Experience working with one or more DHS components Task/project management or technical lead experience.
