The Senior Director of Data Science and Modeling is tasked with consistently identifying and monitoring key business risks and realizing the data needs of the business. You will build and manage a team of analysts who have both technical savvy and the ability to understand how their work drives business results. You will lead the process to further intensify our focus on data - using it to analyze our past performance as well as build a data science and modeling engine that will help us predict the future. What you'll do: Partner with C-level executives and the rest of senior leadership to shape and support our strategy with quantitative insights, and ensure the whole organization makes data driven decisions. You possess the rare ability to understand data deeply AND effectively communicate and 'translate' quantitative findings (storytelling with data) Play a highly collaborative role working closely with other data teams inclusive of marketing/product analytics, data warehousing, and data engineering teams in creating big data applications through the utilization of structured and unstructured data, designing optimal data architecture, and experimenting on new machine learning techniques. Foster a supportive learning environment with high retention by building trust and encouraging openness across the team Drive company-level data strategies and maximize business impact, working cross-functionally to identify growth and ROI-driving opportunities - both on the consumer (content subscription growth) as well as B2B side of the business (driving growth for local businesses and other consumer products) Strengthen core capabilities within the teams that span across Consumer Insights, Research and Segmentation; the ability to analyze performance and growth metrics especially focusing on subscription growth as well as using various models and data science to predict consumer behavior - propensity models Weigh in on the development of key performance indicators for the organization across Product, Marketing, Revenue and Content Perform in-depth analysis, including augmenting our data, to collaborate with leadership and inform strategy for the organization and propose new business initiatives Maintain responsibility for the quality of data analytics for high-priority cross-functional projects at Gannett. Determine how to best staff these projects to enable a data-driven decision-making process. Find creative uses for both structured and unstructured data ranging from ad logs to content. Maintain and enhance current models, tools and data sources to deliver increasingly valuable, repeatable and scalable analytic solutions Consult with stakeholders to assess needs, scope projects and develop data solutions to address business pain points Who you are: 10+ years of relevant experience in a quantitative field with some combination of ecommerce analytics, marketing and/or growth analytics, supply chain analytics, and demand forecasting and at least 5+ years of managing a team of analysts and/or data scientists Communicator: You can communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Your team knows their priorities and you manage expectations with your broader cross-functional stakeholder network and leadership team Technical: Hands-on experience with model development through deployment, and subsequent monitoring. You have experience prototyping, implementing, and maintaining data science solutions in a large enterprise. Bachelors/Masters degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or any other related quantitative field a plus. A working experience of the same is also expected. Proven and successful experience track record of leading high-performing data analyst teams leading through the successful performance of advanced quantitative analyses and statistical modeling that positively impact business performance. The candidate for this position will have to be highly proficient and experienced in scripting languages and have rapid prototyping skills, that is, fluency in SQL, Python, Perl, Java, VB, among others.
