Job Announcement

The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information.

Provides the day to day administrative support for operations in the department, program or local office setting. May assist with client and/or third party billing. Responsible for data entry and database maintenance of systems that support program services. Greets and processes clients; receives incoming telephone calls, schedules clinic appointments, and responds to client inquiries and requests for information. Works with other clinic administrative support team and performs other general office duties. Orients new personnel and provides training updates in new procedures. May have full or partial supervisory responsibilities for 1 or 2 volunteers.

Note: The assigned functional areas of the position are: general administration, office support, receptionist/public contact, records management, and information System/software

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and two years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
None.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates will have three or more years of experience working in a high volume health clinic. The ability to read and write in complete sentences in English. Excellent computer skills in the use of various office computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with database maintenance, filing systems, appointment scheduling and medical billing, a plus. Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with customers and colleagues. Position requires the candidate to work independently and in a team environment, be proactive, exercise good judgment, use critical thinking skills, be highly organized and have excellent communication skills. Bi-lingual in English/Spanish a plus.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a child protective services and, a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs and lift/carry equipment up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
