The Music Therapist will help develop, implement, and evaluate a music therapy program for patients receiving care from the Department/Division. Foster positive and professional interpersonal relationships with patients/families, physicians, hospital staff, community representatives and visitors.Effectively use interpersonal communication skills to promote a healing environment.

Bachelor's Degree
Master's Degree

2 years

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Experience as a music therapist (Required)
Post Master's experience as a music therapist (Preferred)
Experience with children, adolescents, and young adults, and experience working with patients with life-threatening or complex illnesses (Preferred)

Functional Accountabilities

1. Work with patients, families, and staff to understand the needs of different patient populations in relation to a music therapy program.
3. Participate in developing appropriate documentation standards to reflect music therapy assessments and interventions.
4. Participate in developing materials to explain and promote the program.
5. Participate in designing measures to evaluate effectiveness of the program.
0. Participate in setting goals and priorities for the music therapy program.

1. Meet individual patients and parents/guardians to explain music therapy program, invite participation, and answer questions.
2. Assess individual and/or group needs and identifies goals based on assessment.
3. Develop plan for music therapy interventions for individuals and groups as appropriate.
4. Design and provides individual and group music activities and evaluates outcomes.
5. Document interventions in patient medical records according to standards developed for music therapy documentation .
6. Obtain and maintain an age-appropriate and safe selection and quantity of supplies, equipment, and other materials for the program.

1. Actively work to integrate music therapy programs with other psychosocial services.
2. Participate actively in departmental rounds and psychosocial rounds to insure coordinated care for patients and families.
3. Work with other hospital programs to insure coordination of services.
4. Collaborate with relevant departmental and hospital staff to address patient or systemic problems that arise.

Promote Program
1. Work with Public Relations and Marketing and other hospital departments to promote the Program internally and externally as appropriate.
2. Participate in development of student training program.
3. Orient, train, supervise, and evaluate students and volunteers, as appropriate.
4. Assist with activities to fund the program (grant-writing, support for fund-raising activities).
5. Participate in psychosocial research projects relevant to music therapy activities and interventions.
