Serves as the Deputy Director in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration Office, Safety and Integration Division, AUS-400. The incumbent reports to the AUS-400 Director and shares responsibility with the Director for carrying out a wide range of operation and administrative programs pertaining to the development, evaluation, and implementation of organization-wide initiatives, standards, and projects in support of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration Office, Safety and Integration Division, AUS-400, within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Provides day-to-day leadership, oversight, management, and development to all organizational elements of the Division and applies subject matter expertise and analysis methods to develop and evaluate solutions for safely integrating UAS into the NAS. Ensures collaborative decision making to facilitate the development of organizational strategic plans, integration of administrative initiatives/activities, analysis of operational and/or organizational programs, serves as subject-matter expert and provides recommendations on operational and administrative topics, and presents organizational briefings to convey strategic vision/planning or organizational policies.

Directs Branch managers to accomplish the work of the Division and is responsible for assessing the productivity, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of division processes.

Sets priorities and prepares work schedules for completion of program goals in accordance with the organizational mission. Develops long-range organizational concepts and plans. Develops current and near-term organizational standards necessary to implement these concepts and plans, along with associated management goals, standards, and programs necessary to support that implementation.

Managerial duties include communicating the organization's vision and objectives; setting priorities; assigning tasks and responsibilities, coaching and developing staff; monitoring and evaluating performance of managers and employees; employee recognition and rewards, approving leave; and taking corrective/disciplinary actions as appropriate.

Manages division resources and either reallocates resources or acquires additional resources as needed. Leads and integrates the division budget planning process to ensure division projects/programs, both short and long term, are acquired. Participates in planning efforts that cross organizational lines within the major subdivision and LOB/SO.

Develops resource strategies for the organization, and represents the division during the resource planning process. Oversees and supports the development and preparation of budget and resource justifications, presentations and briefings.

Contacts are routinely internal and external to the major subdivision. Internal contacts are with subordinates, peers, and higher-level management to discuss the statuses and results of projects/programs and plan for the future. May represent the major subdivision, LOB/SO, or the FAA externally as a primary point of contact for policies/ procedures or other project/program purposes. Has the authority, within guidelines, to make commitments for the major subdivision, to establish new policies/procedures, and to make exceptions. Creates positive working relationships to ensure coordinated responses with counterparts at the appropriate levels of the organization, along with other organizations to enable problem solving. Communicates and maintains close and continuing contact with key representatives of both internal and external customers to include other FAA Offices, employees, managers, and union representatives.

To qualify for this position at the K-band, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J, FG/GS 14 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience may include but not limited to: Experience overseeing the operation and administration of programs pertaining to the development, evaluation, and implementation of organization-wide initiatives, standards, and projects in support of the organization. Experience leading administrative and technical personnel.
