About the Position: This position is located at the Dalecarlia Plant, Washington, DC and under the supervision of the Washington Aqueduct. The Aqueduct is a large scale, vital public utility, wholly financed through the sale of potable water. The job provides the opportunity to work at one of the largest water utilities in the nation, serving the public and producing a product which impacts the lives of all metropolitan area citizens and businesses on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Uses computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format.
  • Trains others on shop equipment to demonstrate technical methods.
  • Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of those decisions.
  • Monitors shop inventory to ensure needed materials are present.
  • Organizes work and determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Occasional Business Travel 10%.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a confined space proficiency and perform confined space entry certification.
  • Position requires participation in the Medical Surveillance Program to include completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Position has been designated as ?Key? and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • Position has been designated ?Mission Essential?. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Uses and maintains prescribed safety/protective clothing and equipment such as the following: hard hat/ safety glasses/ shoes/belts/face shields, etc., clothing, foul weather gear, and may be required to wear escape respiratory protection.
  • Required to maintain certification for both HAZWOPER operations.
  • Must be physically able to readily access and exit manholes with diameters as small as 20" and to be able to work without fear in small enclosed spaces. Incumbent is required to work scheduled, unscheduled and emergency overtime.
  • May serve as a "competent person" as per EM 385-1-1. Required to be on-call during designated, rotating non-duty hours, to include evenings, holidays and weekends. During on-call periods, must be available on a 24-hour basis if conditions warrant.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a General Maintenance Supervisor to lead or supervise. Planning work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates; explaining work requirements, methods, and procedures; detailed working knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance; developing short- and long-term maintenance goals to ensure optimum operating status; and utilizing computer and maintenance computer applications to analyze and communicate information.
