MilliporeSigma is a business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.Your role: As a Software Developer II within our Bioinformatics group in our Rockville Maryland facility, your role is to design, develop and implement software applications to support the full range of genomics service offerings. These services broadly span the product biosafety and pharmacogenomics fields.In this role you will provide core computational/software development and technical (programming/pipeline development) functions supporting a range of genomics-based ( eg next generation) testing services. Work with our experts to design and develop high-performance code for processing high volume sequencing data, sophisticated algorithms for computational biology, data management, and other challenges. You will liaise closely with management and the bioinformatics and software engineering/IT teams and end-users (including support staff) to understand needs and requirements to aid in software development. You will be expected to lead by example and work collaboratively to advance the application of bioinformatics in the field of biosafety testing.Who you are:Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in information technologies, computer science/programming with 3+ years' experience in information technologies or computational sciences/programming Master's degree in information technologies, computer science/programming with 2+ years' experience in information technologies or computational sciences/programming Doctorate degree in information technologies or computational sciences/programming Preferred Qualifications: Proficient in Perl, Python computer applications development Experience writing software for UNIX/Linux platform Experience with performance optimization for the existing legacy code base, including multi-threading, inter-process communication, refactoring, and algorithm enhancement using code profiling and analysis tools. Demonstrated aptitude to troubleshoot and refine code based on feedback from users/management. Proven drive and ability to apply software engineering principles to code development, learn on the fly, and staying up to date with technology Experience with Object-Oriented code design Willingness to work effectively in a team environment Detail-oriented, with excellent oral and written communication skills Experience working in Test Driven environment with proven ability to plan and execute Unit testing and Integration testing.
