We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has experience with medical devices, interoperability standards, and trusted autonomous systems that will play a leading role in developing assured autonomous medical system concepts, and developing and evaluating emerging technologies for autonomous medical systems with an aim towards realizing the vision of assured autonomous medical care for our government sponsors.As a Senior Autonomous Medical Systems Engineer - You will lead and contribute to projects that encompass concept development, system architecture development, software/analytics/machine learning/artificial intelligence, modeling and simulation, system integration, and laboratory testing. - You will develop and propose new research directions in autonomous medical systems in support of APL's internal research efforts and sponsor programs. - You will mentor new staff to develop leaders in this area, while also building and developing staff technical competency in assured autonomous medical systems. - You will prepare presentations to our sponsors and senior decision-makers to guide their thinking about how to realize the vision of assured autonomous medical systems. You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you - Possess a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field. - Have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in autonomous systems, including several aspects of the system development cycle (design and trade space analysis, detailed design, modeling and simulation, and test and evaluation). - Possess deep knowledge of autonomous systems technologies, techniques, architectures, and decision-making algorithms. - Are proficient with a variety of data modalities for perception and inferencing. - Possess experience developing AI/Machine Learning solutions with modern toolchains (eg TensorFlow, MXNet, PyTorch). - Are a successful technical thought leader with strong technical writing and presentation skills, as evidenced in proposals, publications and/or presentations. - Have strong, demonstrated leadership skills. - Can obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. You go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you - Possess a PhD in a relevant field. - Have domain experience in developing assured autonomous medical systems and working with medical devices. - Have a deep understanding of medical device interoperability. - Are proficient in developing and troubleshooting clinical decision-making software and device controllers. - Have experience with integrating high reliability, secure, and trusted computational platforms and systems.
