The Organization With roots dating back to 1951, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is the premier professional membership organization for obstetrician-gynecologists. The College's activities include producing practice guidelines for health care professionals, developing curriculum and educational programs, providing practice management and career support, facilitating programs and initiatives aimed at improving women's health and health care, and advocating on behalf of members and patients. With more than 60,000 members spanning the entire career lifecycle, ACOG is composed of 12 Districts. These Districts are made up of 98 Sections. ACOG's Districts and Sections represent various regions, countries, territories, and states in North and South America. ACOG members, or Fellows, are board certified obstetrician-gynecologists whose professional activities are devoted to the practice of obstetrics and/or gynecology, who possess unrestricted licenses to practice medicine, and who have attained high ethical and professional standing. In addition, membership in ACOG is open to non-ob/gyn physicians and allied health professionals that perform valuable service in the area in the women's health. Position Objective The Medical Director, Health Equity and Patient Quality shall be responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership and clinical insight to various programs that focus on improving women's health outcomes. This role will focus on supporting efforts to care and advocate for underserved communities, improving patient safety and quality and overseeing various other programs that will impact women's health. The incumbent will provide structure, leadership, and guidance to ongoing and newly created equity efforts, working alongside and in collaboration with divisional leadership and staff as well as direct work with strategic partners. This role will be the nexus for innovative and collaborative efforts, to achieve the goal of changing the culture of medicine and eliminating inequities in healthcare and healthcare outcomes. Key Duties and Responsibilities Foster relationships with national, state, and local healthcare organizations to drive patient safety, quality and health equity initiatives. Provide strategic leadership and clinical insight for federal grants, cooperative agreements and private funding initiatives related to health equity, access to care, and quality and patient safety. Collaborate across departments to support health equity efforts and activities across the organization. Provide clinical leadership and support to the Voluntary Review of Quality of Care ( VRQC) which helps ensure hospitals and health systems we partner with stay at the forefront of patient quality and safety standards. Acts as the primary spokesperson and advocate on behalf of the Alliance for Innovations on Maternal Health (AIM) initiative to continue expansion and quality improvement implementation strategies. Offer strategic, evidence-based guidance to ACOG leadership on complex and/or late-breaking issues related to health equity, anti-racism and justice. Provides clinical leadership related to patient safety and quality initiatives that impact women's health and enhance our member experience. Act as a strategic advisor about reliable processes to improve access and delivery of quality care across diverse populations Provide strategic direction and leadership for committees, mentor and support committee leadership, and provide clinical insight in the development of committee documents and other educational materials, and program activities Represent the College to other organizations and develop and maintain positive relationships and communication with ACOG members, ACOG Districts and Sections, government agencies, and other relevant agencies and organizations, medical and non-medical. Respond to Fellows, outside organizations, and individuals regarding College policies on these issues. Serve as spokesperson in the media and at educational and other events. Position ACOG as a leader amongst peer organizations and the house of medicine in the effort to achieve health equity. Collaborate across the organization to ensure all member educational products have a focus on health equity. Create a diverse and inclusive environment for their team All other duties as assigned Work Qualifications Board Certification in obstetrics and gynecology Active member of ACOG in good standing Experience leading a team Experience working with underserved communities Prefer committee experience in a medical society or association in either patient safety or underserved women Prior experience with patient safety and quality improvement for physicians and multidisciplinary teams Involvement with ACOG at the section, district or national level is desired Experience working collaboratively and leading through influence Demonstrated track record of hiring, managing and mentoring experienced staff members. This involves holding people accountable, resolving conflicts, active participation in annual performance evaluations and providing professional development opportunities Excellent communication skills-oral, written, and listening skills-and a bridge builder who can develop relationships and build trust and credibility with a diverse set of stakeholders.
