Zeus is a suite of technology products, built by The Washington Post, that improves the digital media experience for audiences by delivering lighting-fast experiences and grows media businesses by seamlessly connecting premium advertisers with a network of trusted publishers.

Zeus is a fast-growing commercial initiative of The Washington Post, which is owned by Jeff Bezos. Zeus was launched with the aim of helping publishers optimize their digital advertising and level the playing field as they compete for ad dollars with digital native social and search giants. Zeus leverages the same strategy and hardened technology as the Washington Post.

Zeus is comprised of three primary products:

For publishers, offered in a SaaS model:
  • Zeus Performance - the industry's fastest and most performant programmatic technology stack for video and display.
  • Zeus Insights - Contextual advertising, built on an understanding of the customer journey.


For advertisers:
  • Zeus Prime - Automated buying portal that deploys across premium content and premium inventory.


As a member of the product design team at Zeus, you will shape the future of our business-facing products. The ideal candidate is passionate about user-centered research and design, enjoys collaborating and working with others, and has experience designing software platforms.

In this role you will:
  • Create an intuitive and thoughtful user experience for multiple enterprise applications and the vision for consumer facing advertising experiences across publisher websites
  • Gather user and project requirements to create conceptual wireframes, prototypes, and final visual designs
  • Lead workshops and ideation sessions to build consensus amongst peers and stakeholders to drive product decisions forward
  • Represent the end user within your product team - advocating for their needs and bringing awareness to their goals and pain points
  • Have a clear vision for the future of your product(s) and work with your product manager(s) to define requirements and prioritize roadmap items
  • Design and specify details of user interfaces, interaction patterns, and information architecture, complete with the details needed for engineering to execute on your vision
  • Collaborate with members of the design and product teams to conduct regular research and usability tests for new products and product features
  • Present your work, sharing designs, context and rationale for your decisions, regularly to your product team(s), fellow designers, and stakeholders for reviews and feedback
  • Own the design QA for the initiatives you work on - ensure we're developing high quality products and filing bugs as appropriate
  • Help build out the Zeus Design System - contributing patterns and defining cross-product components
  • Contribute to the team as a thought leader - identifying opportunities for process improvements, providing design feedback, and sharing insights and industry news
  • Help educate others outside of the design team on the value and processes of product design
  • Bring positive energy to the team and help attract top talent to the organization


Requirements:
  • 5+ years of relevant design experience
  • Experience in executing and facilitating concept ideation, wireframing, design iterations, design QA and successful product launches across multiple platforms
  • Experience planning and executing a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Experience working with a Design System, a bonus if involved with the building and launch of a new enterprise Design System
  • Able to confidently present your design work, rationale, and accept constructive feedback
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, etc. (the Zeus team currently uses Sketch and InVision for design and prototyping, and Zepplin for developer documentation)
  • Familiar with basic accessibility standards
  • BS/BA in Design, HCI, or related field; Masters degree a plus
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS is preferred
