About the Capital One Developer Academy (CODA):

We recognize that representation is lacking across the tech industry and within computer science programs. At Capital One, we are committed to ensuring historically underrepresented groups have access to impactful tech careers.

In 2017, we launched Capital One Developer Academy (CODA), creating a pathway for non-computer science students from diverse backgrounds, majors, academic disciplines and experiences into technology, building a more diverse engineering team at Capital One.

As an Instructor for the Capital One Developer Academy (CODA), you'll teach a 6 month immersive software engineering training program. You'll work with associates in the classroom to help them build the skills required to become Capital One software engineers. You'll be joining a team of highly passionate instructors, delivering lessons, providing mentorship, and contributing to the enhancement of the curriculum.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate lessons and lead classroom discussions
  • Work with core instructional team to create and refine course content and curriculum
  • Provide support to students as they work on class exercises, labs and projects
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to students
  • Implement a variety of learning techniques to accommodate different learning styles in the classroom
  • Develop and adapt lesson plans
  • Remain up-to-date on technologies critical to program
  • Community development among instructors and CODA cohort
  • Ability to analyze code to provide meaningful written and live feedback


What You'll Bring:
  • Demonstrated success teaching in a classroom setting
  • A positive attitude and passion for teaching
  • Mastery of client-side JavaScript and familiarity with modern features of Javascript
  • Knowledge of best practices for interaction with back-end APIs
  • Experience with test-driven development practices using modern testing frameworks
  • Experience with responsive design
  • Comfortable working with Git for version control
  • Proficiency in these tools / frameworks / libraries / languages:
    • HTML5 / CSS3
    • JavaScript
    • Node.js
    • Angular
    • Git
    • Relational and non-relational databases
    • Python
    • Amazon Web Services
    • Docker


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years of experience in software development
  • At least 2 years of experience coding in JavaScript
  • At least 1 year experience with GitHub


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 + years of technology instruction experience in a school or enterprise environment
  • 5 + years of experience in software development
  • 1 + year experience in Agile
  • 1 + year experience with Amazon web services
  • 2 + years of full-stack app development
  • 1 + years leveraging Docker or Kubernetes
