The research Technician II will perform routine research procedures related to investigation such as genotyping, RNA, and DNA extraction as directed by principal investigator or supervisor. Duties will be supervised.

The Research Technician I or II will perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests, specimen preparations, and experimental procedures for the purpose of research under the direction of Dr. Adora Lin. The individual will process human (mainly blood and plasma) samples and will conduct experiments to evaluate the role of B cells in the pathogenesis of food allergies and other allergic diseases. Tasks include, but are not limited to, cell culture, flow cytometry, quantitative PCR, and immunoassays such as Luminex. The candidate must have attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and prior experience with cell and/or tissue culture. Experience with human specimens and flexibility to work on weekends (with compensatory time off during the week) is a plus. Prefer ~1 year or more of prior lab experience."


Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree

Specific Requirements and Preferences
with a major in basic science or related field desired. (Preferred)

2-4 years related experience .

Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic knowledge of lab safety and use of basic lab equipment
Knowledge of statistics, advanced mathematics
Knowledge of lab techniques & research related software

Functional Accountabilities

1. Plan, conduct, and manage search projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies under the direction of the principal investigator.
2. Responsible for appropriate use of research funds and resources.
3. Comply with all annual job-related training requirements.
4. Conduct literature search as directed.

Laboratory Work
1. Perform routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor.
2. Record and check results for completeness and accuracy.
3. Perform tasks that may require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment.
4. Compile information from lab notebooks and journals.
5. Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.

Project Planning
1. Assist with planning specific research protocols and procedures.
2. Coordinate schedules of tests and procedures.
3. Assist staff to develop and troubleshoot new techniques and ideas.

1. Maintain a log of work performed;
2. Prepare charts, graphs, and results of studies; compile and help analyze data.
3. Maintain all required records, reports, statistics, etc.; prepare summary reports as requested.
4. Maintain and update department policies in regard to procedures, objectives, safety etc.
