The Washington Post has an immediate opening for a Senior Producer to work on producing programs for our live news platform, Washington Post Live. We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking, and creative producer with a proven track record of outstanding editorial judgement and experience in booking high-profile guests. This producer will assist in driving the editorial and booking for compelling interviews featured on our digital and live platforms.

We are seeking someone a proven go-getter with excellent editorial judgment; someone who can rise to the occasion under the stressful demands of daily production. The ideal candidate will take initiative by making calls and has an extensive rolodex, as well as highly developed relationship-building skills. This position requires high energy and persistence. You must have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented and able to work under pressure while meeting multiple daily deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Suggesting guests and booking newsmaker interviews on topics as diverse as politics, technology, business, entertainment, social change and cultural issues
  • Reporting and producing the editorial and visual content of segments
  • Conceiving programming ideas and topics
  • Working closely with moderators to make sure they are receiving the necessary research and suggested questions needed to ensure the best interviews
  • Scripting copy for intro videos
  • Working with editors and reporters across the newsroom to develop such programs


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years' experience in a professional newsroom in national or major media market is preferred
  • Experience in broadcast or other live programming, including script writing and crafting interview questions
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong research, writing and production skills
  • Proven record of solid editorial judgement and booking high-profile guests
  • Must be able to work an extended schedule as deadlines require
  • Must be able to juggle and prioritize multiple stories with different deadlines
  • Must have a working knowledge and passion for current events, politics, and cultural stories shaping the national conversation
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Experience producing video /taped pieces a plus
  • Social media skills a plus
  • An understanding of the current digital landscape of live streaming a plus
