Summary

About the Position: Serves as the Operations Research Analyst for the United States (US) Army Center for Army Analysis, Ft. Belvoir, VA. Participates with high level decision-makers in defining and establishing the war gaming methodology required to address operational and logistical initiatives or problem areas faced by the Army staff or major subordinate commands that are critical to the execution of their missions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop highly complex simulation computer models of combat support operations.
  • Participate in studies involving operational and strategic wargaming and computer modeling.
  • Develop and coordinate study plans and establishes priorities for study completion.
  • Assist with the development of campaign courses of action and operational/strategic sustainment plans.
  • Brief organization leadership, study sponsors, and high-level officials on progress and conclusions of studies.
  • Responsible for data collection, organization, and analyses.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Operations Research Analysis:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.(NOTE) Must provide transcripts.

In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have specialized experience listed below:

GS-12 Specialized Experience have one year specialized experience equivalent to GS 11 grade level in the federal service which includes assisting or completing projects such as operational and logistical war gaming analyses; Conducts analytical studies in areas of mobilization and deployment, as well as force structure and enabler force requirements; May provide advice and answers to difficult questions posed by leadership; Prepares or presents findings and recommendations for advancing mobilization and deployment initiatives.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

GS-13 Specialized Experience have one year specialized experience equivalent to GS 12 grade level in the federal service which includes completing projects such as operational and logistical war gaming analyses; Conducts analytical studies in areas of mobilization and deployment, as well as force structure and enabler force requirements; Advises and answers difficult questions posed by leadership; Presents findings and recommendations for advancing mobilization and deployment initiatives.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
