The City of Greenbelt, a progressive and diverse community of 23,909 (est.), is seeking an communications professional to promote city services, events, amenities, programs, history,sustainability efforts, city policy and more! That is a lot, but Greenbelt is no ordinary city.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Operate government access studio and program the government access television channels. Must maintain studio and video production equipment.
• Design, update, and maintain the city’s website.
• Provide diverse and dynamic social media postings.
• Create attractive brochures, fliers, programs, and newspaper ads.
• Create graphs and charts and provide photographs for the City Budget Book,
• Oversee the production of informational videos and maintain the City’s live streaming site and on-demand library.
• Oversee City’s list serve platform and distribute a variety of electronic newsletters.
• Create presentations for meetings and displays for conferences.
• Create multi-media programs to celebrate special weeks, such as Municipal Government, Small Business, Chesapeake Bay, Active Aging and more.
• Play a key role emergency and crisis situations.
• Serves as an advisor to City Manager and City departments regarding public relations, policy and programs.
• Serve as the City liaison to Comcast and Verizon and oversee the franchise agreements.
• Work with homeowners, neighborhoods and the cable companies on maintenance and other cable issues.
• Serve on the Prince George’s County Intergovernmental Network Executive and Public
Information committees.
• Work on City procedures to address small cell applications.
• Manage two Part-Time Classified employees and other part-time video production employees.
• Honor the Community Pledge.
Qualifications Include:
• Media professionals encouraged.
• Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
• Value and demonstrate ability to embrace and incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion in action and work products.
• Be able to support strategic planning including development of a communications plan, City policy, and implementation of City programs.
• Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization, as well as diverse local/regional/state stakeholders, governments and media
• At least 5 years of experience overseeing all of the various communications platforms in a local government or like organization.
• Be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; especially in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat.
• Know how to operate still and video cameras and be able to set up equipment for remote video shoots.
• Be able to cover events outside of the 9am-5pm, M-F work week. At times, including evenings & weekends.
• Be creative and be able to show samples of work in various media formats.
