Job Description

Global Finance supports all of Capital One's worldwide financial activities, including corporate-level financial reporting, internal control, inter-company and tax activities. Within Global Finance, the Treasury Accounting team is seeking a high-energy and forward-thinking professional to join us as a Senior Manager focused on Investment and Funding Accounting.

You're a self-starter that continually looks for ways to improve what we do and how we do it, including embracing new technologies. You have a great attention to detail and feel comfortable diving into the numbers to provide in-depth analysis to our various business partners. Major Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Treasury, Capital Markets and Balance Sheet management teams to assess overall strategies and determine how accounting rules and processes impact business decisions, while anticipating issues and obstacles
  • Lead well managed and controlled activities related to derivatives, investments and debt activities
  • Communicate complex matters in a simple way during month end close presentations to Controller leadership and during regular business discussions
  • Identify and drive opportunities to centralize, eliminate, automate or outsource activities in a scalable, sustainable and standardized manner
  • Drive ad-hoc business analysis to display how business actions impact our financial results and our accounting policy decisions
  • Work closely with Accounting Policy to research treasury accounting issues, prepare write-ups and drive results; draft and/or review treasury-related information in the 10-K, 10-Q, earnings release and other regulatory filings for accuracy. Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SEC regulations and other regulatory guidance.
  • Partner with project management and business partner teams, to design and implement new business product / program initiatives and processes
  • Deliver internal audit review and SOX compliance
  • Supervise and coordinate work assignments amongst onshore and offshore teams of around 30 people. Provide timely feedback to staff
  • Display a passion for coaching and developing a team of associates through their leadership style


Characteristics we're looking for:
  • Team player capable of interacting cross-functionally and at all levels of the organization and capable of taking ownership
  • Adaptive to change, new ideas and able to prioritize with minimal direction
  • Passion for improvement and a desire to keep learning with what new technology can offer to rethink the possible, including data transformation, BI tools and automation scripting (e.g., Python)
  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and experience with investment & debt accounting
  • Inspiring leader who can motivate and empower their team


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or military experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • At least 12 years of accounting experience
  • At least 5 years of public accounting experience or at least 5 years of technical accounting experience
  • At least 3 years of Treasury Accounting or Accounting Policy experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience with either a large, public financial services company in Accounting Policy or in a technical accounting role within a large public accounting firm
  • Aptitude for leading large teams; influencing and galvanizing others to follow you toward a solution
  • A demonstrated history of solving multiple and complex operational and accounting challenges
  • At least 5 years of experience interacting with standard-setting organizations (FASB, EITF, OCC, SEC, IASB, etc.)
  • Organizational skills along with an aptitude for information technology
  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
