This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Responsibilities

In this position you will serve as a Police Officer with a duty station of Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. As a Police Officer your primary responsibility of the position is to ensure compliance with and enforce a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work. Possess arrest/apprehension authority and is required to carry a firearm in the performance of duties. Law enforcement duties are performed on rotating shifts at a major military installation. You will attend formal, on-the-job and in-service training to include regularly scheduled weapons qualifications training, receives periodic instructions and/or drill in law enforcement procedures, and participates in annual physical agility testing. You will patrol assigned areas on foot and by motor vehicle. Prevent, detects and investigates violations of law, rules and regulations. Respond to various calls for law enforcement services at all levels (felony and misdemeanor), to include crimes in progress, citizen complaints, and emergency situations to include natural and manmade disasters. You will arrest/apprehend violators, with goal of case referral to the appropriate Federal level with authority to prosecute. Engage in traffic control and serves as a deterrent to crime by being present in the area and through observation, inspection, and investigation. Through investigation process collects physical and testimonial evidence, and appears as a witness in court proceedings. Enforce traffic laws, rules and regulations, investigates traffic accidents, and issues citations for violations. Operate emergency vehicles equipped with radar or other speed detection equipment and pursues speeding vehicles when enforcing traffic regulations or laws. Pursue and apprehend persons fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest.

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 -DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated, unless a waiver is approved, from the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Rotating shifts are required.
  • Required training certification (gain and pass): All DODI 5525.15 requirements; FEMA IS-100, -200, -700, -701, and -800.B IAW HSPD-8 and AR 525-27; HAZMAT Awareness; Radiation Safety Training.
  • Additional training certification (gain and pass): Operating a special purpose vehicles; administering CPR/first aid and other emergency medical procedures and other certifications as prescribed by regulations or statutes

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-06 SPECIALIZED EXPEREINCE: Specialized experience is defined as one year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service which includes: (1) Maintaining order and protecting life; (2) Responding to citizens in emergency/non-emergency situations; and(3) Protecting of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass.

GS-07 SPECIALIZED EXPEREINCE: Specialized experience is defined as one year of experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service which includes: (1) Enforcing criminal laws; (2) Conducting search and investigation operations; and (3) Preparing a variety of reports such as sworn statements, and affidavits.

Education
