Description: Due to growth, we are hiring in one of several locations: Goleta, CA, Salt Lake City, UT, OR Millersville, MD. This position could also be located close to an L3Harris office with 25-40% travel to Goleta, CA, Salt Lake City, UT OR Millersville, MD. L3Harris is seeking a Scientist, Electrical Engineer to develop and realize undersea acoustic system solutions. These systems involve deep ocean installations containing high reliability, high channel count sensors, distributed power systems, and optical networks. The ideal candidate will have a background in maritime systems designing acoustic systems, high voltage power supplies, and optical networks. The key elements of this position include aggregating top-level requirements from multiple sources, consolidating and developing a technical solution, working with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and implementing and testing designs that meet or exceed all requirements. Technical writing and proposal experience are desired. Essential Functions: Develop technical solutions applying electronic and optical design elements. Lead development projects involving low noise circuit design, power systems, and the integration of the elements into a high-level system design. Develop optical budgets and analyses, prepare test setup and conduct experiments to validate assumptions and verify requirements. Perform analysis and trade studies to evaluate possible technical solutions using tools such as MATLAB, Mathcad, LTSpice, and/or reliability modeling software. Direct customer interaction to contribute to and shape system solutions and requirements. Manage project progress including the development and tracking of TPMs, SW metrics, and program risk. Experience the full design cycle from proposal to design to field-testing and installations. Lead detailed design efforts using analysis, acoustic modeling, and prototype testing. Work closely with engineering, program management, and business development to perform requirements analysis and high level conceptual and detailed design of systems involving marine sensing, data acquisition, telemetry, and tracking, particularly Navy/DoD systems working to deconstruct vague customer requirements into functional and allocated baselines. Work with program management and senior leadership to see and understand the financial performance of the program. Apply field experience to assist in development of marine system installation techniques considering installation equipment to be used and physical configuration of the system. Lead, and contribute significantly to proposal efforts. Mentor and develop junior engineers in the above activities. Qualifications:B.S. or MS degree in an engineering field or physics-based field required. 10 years' experience post-graduation. Design experience and a strong understanding of optical and electronic circuit design, including a strong knowledge of electro-optics and optical components, multiplexed fiber optic federated systems, and optical amplification. Power supply design experience is required (high voltage strongly preferred). Experience with analysis tools including MATLAB is required. Strong writing and presentation skills are required. Must have an active Secret clearance. Preferred Experience: Previous DoD background preferred particularly former military, DoD contractor or government service. (Note: assuming no restrictions due to DoD and company guidelines on hiring of former government service personnel). Experience leading an integrated product team (IPT) including as a Cost Account Manager (CAM), with a working knowledge of EVMS principles. Understanding of undersea and acoustic systems including a working knowledge of the sonar equation. Understanding of acoustic transducer design.
