Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, develops, and directs activities and projects related to the maintenance, renovation and modernization of GPO buildings, Laurel Warehouse and equipment.
  • Evaluates personnel and equipment requirements for the division and makes recommendations to Facility Division Chief.
  • Performs the full range of personnel management functions such as employee performance evaluation and recommends corrective actions to the Facility Division Chief as required.
  • Identifies training needs, provides for formal and informal on the job training; conducts interviews for non-supervisory positions.
  • Makes recommendations on appointments to the Facility Division Chief.
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert for the Computerized Maintenance System (CMMS).
  • Tracks all work orders and manages workload by leveraging system capabilities. Coordinates closely with the Engineering Division to ensure that work is completed to the engineering design standard.
  • Ensures employees follow GPO safety rules and regulations.
  • Prepares purchase requests and justifies purchase of new equipment and equipment.
  • This includes work specifically performed by trade employees in one or more of the following branches: Carpenter, Electric, Pipe and Sheet Metal, Paint, Machine, Power Branch, and Elevator.

To qualify for the Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist, PG - 1640 - 13 , you must meet the following requirements:

To minimally qualify for the PG-13 level, you must meet the following requirements. One (1) year of specialized experience at the PG-12 (or equivalent) level or higher? Specialized experience includes: Knowledge of construction and building trades in the areas of building and maintenance, construction, and restoration and modernization. Knowledge of agency cost systems and processes in order to carry out proper financial controls to ensure the proper utilization of funds. Knowledge of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Knowledge of leadership techniques to lead and motivate a wide variety of skilled trades and craft workers in a union environment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (05/11/2021) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used or this grade level.

Work Life Balance:

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Moderate Risk Public Trust. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background for a Moderate Risk Public Trust. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
