Summary

Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is seeking students to serve as unpaid interns to assist in the performance of its mission of providing support services for the President. Interns will be exposed to the Federal work environment and will learn about the mission of OMB and its role and responsibility to the Executive Office of the President. Responsibilities

The OMB Student Internship Program is a semester-long, volunteer program in which graduate (post-baccalaureate) students gain knowledge and experience in the organization. Assignments may include research, analysis, statistics, and coordination of briefing books, report preparation, meeting and conference planning, letter writing, and covering meetings, hearings, and/or legislative markup sessions. Internships are available for any division in the agency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. ALL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants will not be considered if they do not meet every key requirement. As outlined in this announcement, all applicants must be enrolled in a degree seeking academic program.
  • All applicants must be accepted or enrolled at an accredited graduate school in pursuit of an advanced degree.
  • Proof of enrollment for the duration of the internship must be provided within the application package to include student transcripts or class schedule.
  • Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
  • Applicants MUST submit a writing sample limited to 2 pages to be considered for this program. An example of a writing sample is a college report, paper or publication.
  • Must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale for all required courses completed in a qualifying major field of study at either the time of application or during the last two years of your undergraduate curriculum.

ARE YOU USING YOUR EDUCATION TO QUALIFY? You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Unless otherwise stated: (1) official or unofficial transcripts are acceptable, or (2) you may submit a list with all of your courses, grades, semester, year, and credit for the course. All materials must be submitted by the closing date of the announcement.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
