Summary
The MIL Corporation seeks a Database Administration, Senior Associate ( Oracle/MySQL Database Administrator) to support a Federal Government client at our Bethesda, MD location. The Oracle DBA will ensure the performance, availability and security of all Oracle and MySQL based systems.
Responsibilities
- Managing and supporting database platforms (Oracle primarily) on Linux and Windows, working closely with the vendors, external consultants, application support teams, technical support team, and other Oracle database administrators
- Recognizing areas for improvement in the team; taking appropriate action to initiate changes
- Installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining database instances; maintaining databases to include patching, backup and recovery, new release rollouts, and upgrades, and ensuring recovery from backup is setup to meet requirements
- Implement and release database changes required for front-end applications
- Ensure availability and performance of the databases
- Recommending and implementing database security policies
- Recommending and implementing database backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies
- Proactively monitoring database systems, performance, capacity, and associated hardware to ensure secure services with minimum downtime and implementing automated monitoring to ensure proactive handing of issues
- Working independently to perform database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance
- Following and recommending best practices
- Providing usage trend analysis to management team regarding hardware/software resource management, and capacity planning
- Collaborating with contract team and Federal customers to promote a positive, helpful, and inclusive environment
- Manage tasks to meet customer SLAs and expectations, communicate issues and recommend remediation

- Performing other tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or Information Systems; candidates who possess a degree in another area will require additional experience supporting Oracle databases
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification
- Hands on Oracle Database Administrator and management
- Hands on MySQL Database Administrator and management
- Demonstrated Linux and Windows operating system experience
- Supported cloud-based database technologies such as Microsoft Azure or AWS, including but not limited to, MySQL.
- Experience in backup and recovery especially the use of RMAN, and export/import required
- Familiar with MySQL tools mysqldump and mysqlbinlog
- Experience in using BASH shell and tools such as tar, gzip, and OpenSSL
- Experience in Oracle Data Guard, Grid Control, GoldenGate, Multitenant, Apex, and Connection Manager
- Experience in TDE (Transparent Data Encryption)
- Experience in MySQL replication and encryption
- Strong database troubleshooting and performance tuning skills, especially in Oracle
- Experience in installing, upgrading, and configuring databases servers
- Knowledge of cluster and VM environments
- Strong understanding of DMZ
Desired Qualifications
- Hands on Oracle Database Administrator with ten (10) or more years of working experience
- Hands on MySQL Database Administrator with five (5) or more years of working experience
- Experience in Microsoft SQL Server preferred
- Strong SQL and PL/SQL skill. The skill in T-SQL
Education
- BA/BS
- MS preferred
