Job Details

AEI's Initiative on Faith & Public Life is seeking an entrepreneurial, mission-oriented director for this program. The Initiative on Faith & Public Life is a unique academic outreach program that provides Christian college students with formational educational and professional opportunities. In a political culture marked simultaneously by polarization, partisanship, and apathy (especially among young people), the initiative seeks to equip students to engage faithfully and constructively in contemporary public life.

We carry out this mission by working with a network of students, faculty, scholars, and professionals across the country; sponsoring seminars, conferences, on-campus events, and other intensive programming; and producing various educational resources including books, essays, videos, and documentaries. Reflected in all our programs and resources are AEI's core values: a commitment to democracy and free enterprise, solidarity with those at the periphery of our society, and an appreciation for a robust competition of ideas. In that spirit, the initiative fosters rigorous, nonpartisan dialogue about a wide range of relevant topics - from economics and business to society and culture and from politics and public policy to character and vocation-from a distinctly Christian perspective.

The person in this role is the internal and external leader of the initiative; they are responsible for overseeing all of its programs, maintaining relationships with key partners, spearheading resource development, strategic planning, and managing a team. Depending on the candidate, the director may also teach, write, and speak as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • At least eight years of relevant professional experience
  • Significant program management experience: demonstrated ability to lead a team effectively, execute strategic plans, meet deadlines, and develop and run complex programs and events
  • Familiarity with AEI's scholarship, think tanks and public policy, and the academic and Christian intellectual worlds-preferably with existing professional relationships with leaders in these sectors
  • Strong interest in the intersection of Christian theology and ethics with politics, economics, and society, ideally with some published work in these areas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an interest in network building, and strong verbal and written communication
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic and a willingness to do menial work when needed
  • Mission driven and entrepreneurial; a self-starter who takes initiative
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • To qualify for the scholarly component of the role, a master's degree or (preferably) PhD is required, and the candidate should have some experience teaching and/or speaking, as well as published work on topics related to the initiative's mission

Travel Requirements
  • This position requires semi-regular travel (8+ trips each year) for major programs, campus events, and participation in partner conferences. Some work or travel on weekends and in evenings is also required.
