Summary

This position is located at the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC). The NMAAHC is a national museum for the study and exhibition of African American history and culture. It acquires, maintains and preserves objects which document social, cultural, political, military, technological and scientific developments in the U.S. related to the African American experience.

Responsibilities

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Communications, Office of External Affairs and provides the following duties and responsibilities:
  • provides leading marketing and advertising campaigns to enhance brand awareness;
  • designs content-rich editorial calendars resulting in high audience engagement and publicity;
  • develops multi-channel communications plans;
  • manages competing assignments and projects;
  • conducts research and prepares reports to enhance internal and external communications and collaboration; and
  • supervises staff.


Travel Required

Occasional travel - Some travel is required to manage media coverage of Museum events and public programs held in major cities across the United States.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as developing and managing marketing, advertising and social media campaigns; evaluating campaigns using metrics and data; preparing and overseeing multi-channel editorial plans; writing and editing copy for ads, video scripts, brochures, annual reports or other marketing collateral; and having proficiency in PowerPoint and project management software (i.e., Smartsheet).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above.

Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above.

Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

  • Skill in developing a comprehensive, integrated annual marketing plan, campaign, implementation timelines, execution steps and content requirements.
  • Ability to develop and implement, editorial plans and editorial content.
  • Skill in developing and executing marketing, branding, and advertising plans.
  • Skill in negotiating, preparing and managing service agreements with contractors.
  • Ability to lead and/or supervise.
