Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Education Specialist, for Diabetes Care, Registered Nurse (RN) for our Professional Development and Practice Department, who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.
The Nurse Education Specialist for Diabetes Care provides consultation to
physicians, multidisciplinary team members and patients in the care planning of the patient with diabetes from admission to discharge. The Diabetes Care and Education Specialist educates patients on diabetes management, medications, glucose monitoring and dietary and lifestyle aspects of diabetes. The Diabetes Care and Education Specialist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the development of protocols for glycemic management and on initiatives to improve glycemic control, acilitating the professional development and lifelong learning activities of nurses to enhance their professional competence and role performance.
The Education Specialist is responsible for managing overall professional development programs, providing relevant education to nurses, maintaining and enhancing clinical competence, fostering a positive outlook on lifelong learning, directing the development of educational activities and planning programs that increase breadth and depth of nurses' knowledge. The Education Specialist demonstrates professionalism at all times and is an integral part of the nursing leadership team, representing their department at all levels of the organization

Qualifications include:
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a minimum of a Bachelor's
Degree required
• Valid Maryland RN license required
• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and
ACLS required
• 5 years of current Clinical Specialty, certification in Diabetes within 3 years

Work Schedule:

BSN in Nursing; Two years experience, patient education experience

Certification in diabetes education within two years of hire

Work schedule: day shift with occasional weekend or evening hours to meet patient needs.
