Summary

This assignment is a minimum of at least 120 consecutive days and a maximum of two years.

This assignment is located in Department of Homeland Security, Office of Operations Coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice in a Homeland Security Enterprise area such as law, regulatory compliance, human resources, health care, engineering, science, security, or any of the many other specialized fields represented in DHS's varied portfolio.
  • Network and interface with the senior most leadership of the Department and their parent organizations for the purposes of unified coordination.
  • Provides a group of future-focused, forward-thinking cross-Component advisory subject matter experts that facilitate Component input into Department-level, joint operations.
  • Provides customized, actionable recommendations to DHS Senior Leadership.
  • This organization is designed to support informed senior leader decision making and bring the capabilities of the entire Department against a specific threat or contingency.
  • The JIAG works across the entire DHS spectrum of operations (Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery) and directly supports multiple Department senior leadership forums.
  • Every individual who completes a detail with the JIAG will have a broader understanding of the DHS mission and the roles of every Component, Office, and Joint Task Force upon return to their parent organization.
  • Additionally, the each JOA is provided detailed joint duty training (planning, staff coordination, decision support tools and techniques, etc.).
  • Focus areas are border security, immigration enforcement, counter-terrorism and nation state threats, law enforcement, counter transnational organized crime and trafficking, trade, economic security.
  • Other focus areas are supply chain management, domain and sector-oriented operations (maritime, space, transportation, etc.).

  • Must be a current permanent Federal employee
  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.
  • Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
  • Must be currently at or above the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
  • The program does not apply to members of the Military service or contractors.


Qualifications

Qualifications required:
  • Possess a working knowledge of MSOFFICE applications (MSWORD, Power point, etc.).
  • Ability to work individually or as a member of a working group.

    If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.

    Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:
  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
    • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
    • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
    • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete 12 hours of professional development using Skillsoft courses, videos, and books in conjunction with the established assignment objectives for the JDA.
  • Attend each of the DHS Joint Duty Program Director's quarterly webinars (1 hour per quarter).
