Overview FutureCare Courtland is a 151 bed facility providing short stay rehabilitation and long term care in the neighborhoods of Milford Mill, Pikesville, Randallstown and Reisterstown is looking for an RN Unit Manager to join their team. SIGN ON BONUS Responsibilities The Unit Manager oversees the daily operations of the unit. Major responsibilities involve overseeing nursing care, fiscal management, and human resource management. Works predominately with an adult geriatric population. Duties & Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following tasks and assignments: Administrative Management: Responsible for daily operations of assigned unit to ensure quality service in accordance with current nursing standards of practice, FutureCare policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations. Participates in developing goals for the nursing department. Assists in identifying strategies for the nursing department and target dates for goals. Monitors and implements the facility's policies and procedures. Interviews applicants for nursing and other staff positions and makes recommendations regarding hiring according to policy, following EOE guidelines. Makes changes in unit employees' work schedules and ensures adequate coverage of the unit for each shift. Informs staffing coordinator of changes. Recommends staffing patterns and staffing needs for the unit to the Director of Nursing. Participates in annual budget process by identifying staff, supplies and equipment needs for the next fiscal year. Participates in the management of financial issues with Medicare and Medicaid residents. Completes a level of care review for each resident on a weekly basis, including signing of special and additional services delivered. 10. Reviews weekly staffing sheets, addresses variances and implements of corrective actions needed, in conjunction with the Director of Nursing. 11. In the absence of staffing coordinator ensures daily staffing sheets are prepared based on staffing plan. 12. Develops and implements a process to monitor hours of care provided per day. 13. Monitors and revises resident assignment groupings per shift according to resident needs and staffing levels. 14. Performs or assigns shift charge responsibilities for the unit, which includes assignment and coordination of duties of nursing personnel based on resident care and staff availability. 15. Ensures tools that identify resident care needs based on the resident's plan of care are complete, accurate and available for both licensed staff and GNA's daily. 16. Monitors the relevance, accuracy and completeness of information documented in resident's medical record. 17. Assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in investigating and identifying all relevant aspects of incidents, complaints, and/or emergencies on the unit. 18. Performs "on-call"A' responsibilities as assigned. 19. Abides by the standards identified in FutureCare's Statement of Corporate Ethics and the Corporate Compliance Plan. Human Resource Management: Responsible for personnel management activities to achieve quality resident care and positive employee relations. Conducts regular periodic unit staff meetings for exchange of information and the changes in facility policies and procedures. Monitors unit employees' attendance, lateness and overtime and counsels unit employees, as needed, to improve attendance and hours worked. Reviews payroll reports daily and determines appropriateness of nursing staff overtime hours. Ensures individual staff is notified timely of overtime that has not been approved. Counsels employees on deficiencies in performance and attendance. Initiates disciplinary action in accordance with FutureCare policy. Handles grievances by unit employees in accordance with FutureCare policy. Participates in new employee orientation. Identifies staff development needs of unit staff. Collaborates with staff development coordinator in planning, teaching and evaluating staff development programs. 10. Provides informal instruction to unit staff as necessary. 11. Conducts annual evaluations of unit personnel. Clinical Management: Utilizes the nursing process to promote quality care. Supervises clinical aspects of nursing practice and engages in clinical activity. Directs work assignment of nursing and other unit staff and ensures performance of duties. Acts as role model for unit. Monitors resident issues daily. Ensures resident change of condition is identified, assessed, documented and reported per facility policy. Demonstrates clinical competency in care of residents. Maintains and improves clinical knowledge base and skills to remain current in practical standards. Makes daily rounds to evaluate care rendered and to supervise staff. Attends weekly interdisciplinary conferences and gives nursing input to the resident's plan of care. D. Performance Improvement: Reviews all unit incidents and initiates investigation of questionable issues. Monitors clinical indicators designated by department and develops plan of action for identified issues. Monitors the relevance, accuracy and completeness of information recorded in the resident's medical record. Completes monthly hours of care for unit. Utilizes Quality Indicator reports in evaluating clinical practice. Follows up on correction of problems identified. Reviews 24 hour report daily and follows up on any issues. Identifies unsafe or incorrect practices of staff and institutes corrective action. Utilizes Performance Improvement (PI) process in evaluating clinical practice as evidenced by: the generation of accurate data, monitoring data to determine variances; identify promptly areas of concern and developing and implementing interventions to improve clinical practice. Participates in the facility's Performance Improvement Committee meetings as indicated. 10. Involves all members of the unit staff in Performance Improvement through the communication of data, active problem identification, handling of resident/family complaints and concerns, establishment of improvement goals and the development/implementation of interventions to improvement clinical practice. Communication/Leadership: Serves as an effective member of the resident care team, contributing to and assuring efficient, safe operation of the unit and promoting effective relationships and communication with all facility personnel. Applies effective interviewing skills. Identifies and diffuses stressful/conflict situations. Communicates pertinent information and requests through established channels. Conducts a minimum of monthly staff meetings (more frequently based on unit/staff needs) and disseminates information to those who are unable to attend. Interacts with others in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner. Maintains effective verbal communication in a professional manner with residents and their families, nursing staff, physicians and other health team members. Collaborates with the DON to identify clinical activities to facilitate the professional growth of staff. Communicates with DON on a regular basis, through verbal or written communication as appropriate. Communicates all pertinent unit information to Supervisor. Professional Development: Seeks opportunities for professional growth. Attends meetings as directed (at least 75% per year). Participates in education workshops/programs to increase professional competence to meet professional goals. Presents neat appearance in appropriate dress and identification as required by the position, department, and facility policy. Participates in formal self-evaluation by identifying areas of strength and limitation. Attends mandatory in-services including CPR, fire/safety, risk management. Other relevant duties as assigned Qualifications 1. Current Maryland RN Licensure. 2. Progressive experience in an acute or long term care setting and proven leadership ability. 3. BS degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
