Responsibilities

  • Serves as an expert in the furnishing of technical information, assistance and advice dealing with the implementation and integration of diverse technically complex systems as they relate to the successful operation of modern printing/publishing.
  • Manages PACE server databases involving planning, development, implementation, and administration of systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data. Analyzes and defines data requirements and specifications.
  • Designs, normalizes, develops, installs, and implements databases; maintains, monitors, performance tuning, backup, and recovery of databases. Installs, configures, and maintains database management systems software.
  • Analyzes and plans for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements; develops and administers data standards, policies, and procedures ; develops and implements data mining and data warehousing programs.
  • Performs technical studies and simulations of proposed development efforts to ensure that the design will meet user requirements.
  • Maintains relationship with the EFI product management and stays abreast of product roadmap and product releases in order to determine viability of upgrades. Performs testing and validation of changes to the system.
  • Participates in regular quality assurance post-implementation system reviews to determine if projected benefits have been achieved. Ensures appropriate product-related training and documentation are developed and made available to software users.
  • Performs process mapping where none exist and analyzes weaknesses and repetitions in current established processes. Constructs reports from data to gain data and workflow insights into GPO work processes.
  • Coordinates with other organizations to accomplish goals and integrate simultaneous project activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for the IT Specialist (Data Management), PG -2210-13, you must meet the following requirements:

Knowledge of operating systems in processing movement and storage of data; Knowledge of the operating characteristics and the various processes being performed by printing and composition equipment; Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and printing data; Skill in troubleshooting complex problems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(05/07/2021) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Moderate Risk Public Trust. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background for a Moderate Risk Public Trust. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
