Job RequirementsThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, codes, standards, and procedures in the repair and maintenance of heating, plumbing and sewage systems;Thorough knowledge of the common hazards, practices and safety precautions in the trade;Skill in the use of hand or power tools used in the trade;Ability to supervise the work of others;Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions, including blueprints and schematics;Ability to work in confined spaces;Willingness to work day or evening hours as required; andMust be in good physical condition.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:Journeyman Plumbing Certificate and Back Flow Prevention Card required, Master Plumbing license desired; with considerable experience as a Journeyman Plumber, some of which shall have been at the level of a Plumbing I; completion of high school, standard vocational school course(s), GED or recognized apprenticeship in the trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Journeyman Plumbing Certificate and Back Flow Prevention Card required. Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License with driving record indicating five (55) of fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Oversees crews of Trades Helpers and Journeymen.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Participates in laying out, planning, servicing and scheduling the maintenance program for water and sewer systems;Installs and repairs hot and cold water, oil, steam or gas pipes and makes all necessary connections per code;Installs and repairs water supply piping and sewer mains;Installs and repairs fixtures such as lavatory facilities, back flow preventers, pumps, drinking fountains, sprinkler systems, kitchen equipment and boilers;Repairs, cuts, and threads pipes and valve traps in heating and plumbing systems;Intermittently assists skilled workmen or related trades in general construction and maintenance work;Instructs and supervises the work of other Journeyman, apprentices and Trades Helpers in maintenance and repair of systems; andPerforms other duties as assigned.
