Washington, District Of Columbia, United States Description Title: Deputy Policy Director Reports To: Policy Director Staff reporting to this position: Policy Associate Class: Exempt/Full time Bargaining unit position Job Group 6 Summary The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Equitable Growth engages with academics and policymakers to better understand economic inequality in the United States and its impact on economic growth. Important elements of Equitable Growth's mission include in-house, academic-quality research, and grantmaking to academic economists and other social scientists to support new research on inequality, mobility, growth, and related issues. Building a stronger bridge between academics and the policy community and elevating researchers and their work with the news media are both key to our work, with the goal of making new research relevant, accessible, and informative to the policymaking process. The Deputy Policy Director is responsible for supporting the Policy Director and the wider Equitable Growth Policy Team in promoting policies that lead to strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. This position contains both external- and internal-facing responsibilities, including supporting the day-to-day functioning of the Policy Team by coordinating work across program areas and across the wider organization. The Deputy Policy Director will help shape policy debates and position Equitable Growth as a go-to resource for understanding how economic inequality affects economic growth and stability and what policymakers can do about it. Responsibilities Support the Policy Director in the strategic development and execution of evidence-backed policy priorities that align with Equitable Growth's mission and are informed by the organization's funded and in-house research Coordinate the work of program areas to ensure maximum impact among the policymaking community Develop and execute programming ideas that foster feedback loops between academia, policymakers, and advocates Support the Policy Team and the wider organization in developing research and analysis at the intersection of economic inequality, structural racism, and broadly shared growth Demonstrate interest in, and mastery of, a subfield within economics and develop work products that advance the Equitable Growth mission in policy development Utilize and improve upon current tools and workflow processes for successful project management Support the creation and execution of policy-relevant materials for conferences, public events, and Equitable Growth's policy issue areas by working with our grantees and other members of our network Requirements Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience Previous experience in economic policymaking and knowledge of federal economic policymaking institutions, including the US Congress, executive branch agencies, the White House, and the Federal Reserve Strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion Proven ability to manage cross-collaborative teams and establish program plans, priorities, and goals Results-oriented project management experience with a history of simultaneously supporting multiple projects to successful completion Experience supporting teams and initiatives from idea generation to successful implementation Proven ability to apply academic economics and broader social science research to policy problems Proven ability to communicate evidence-based policy guidance to key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocates, and the media Strong written and verbal communication skills Commitment to Equitable Growth's mission and goals Job Posted by ApplicantPro
