The position will remain open until all spots are filled.ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Higher Achievement closes the opportunity gap during the pivotal middle school years. The multi-year program makes a measurable impact on student's grades, social/emotional skills, and long-term success. We flood our scholars with opportunities throughout their middle school years, and the program dramatically improves their achievement. Our year-round program is grounded in research. It combines high expectations with high support - demanding academic work plus mentoring, skill-building, individual student achievement plans, and personal encouragement. The program includes Afterschool Academy, Summer Academy, and high school placement services. On average, 95% of our scholars graduate from high school on time. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Volunteer Recruitment Fellow role is a full-time stipend volunteer position, made available through partnership with the AmeriCorps Program. The term of service will begin in September and end in August, with the option to renew for a second term. The position includes both direct involvement with scholars, and administrative tasks, to support Higher Achievement's progressive, skills-based cultural and academic model. Working closely with the Senior Manager of Volunteer Management and Development to identify, recruit, train, and support volunteers. Responsibilities will focus on four key areas: Volunteer recruitment Volunteer onboarding and trainingStudy Hall Aide recruitment, management, and training Act as a Center Buddy AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY Volunteer RecruiterOutcome(s): Recruit between 150 -300 volunteers from September - August. Work with the Manager of Volunteer Recruitment and Development to identify potential volunteer pipelines.Attend tabling, flyering, and canvassing events to meet the 100% volunteer recruitment goal. Build upon and pursue new university partnerships to generate new volunteer management pipelines. Work with the Manager of Scholar Programming to identify large group seminar programs. Manage Bring a Friend to Mentoring campaign with current volunteers. Volunteer Onboarding and Training Outcome(s): Ensure that all volunteers have completed every step in the onboarding and training process and are placed at an Achievement Center in a timely manner. Lead regular New Volunteer Orientation trainings. Conduct informational interviews by phone with prospective mentors.Track volunteers through the on-boarding process to ensure that every person has been cleared through a federal background check and has a negative TB test.Ensure that all current mentors have background checks and TB tests that have been conducted in the last two years and work to ensure that volunteers who are approaching the two-year mark renew their clearance. Conduct regular observations of Managers of Instruction and of volunteers at each center. Manage monthly Volunteer Management Newsletter. Study Hall Aide recruitment, management, and training Outcome(s): Recruit 54 (6 per center) high school and college age volunteers to assist in study hall throughout the Afterschool Academy. Work with local high schools and universities to identify potential study hall aides. Attend recruitment fairs at schools near Achievement Centers to recruit study hall aides.Work with the Manager of Alumni Services to encourage alumni to act as study hall aides. Identify schools who have volunteer requirements for students and plan recruitment events. Host regular trainings for study hall aides with one group training at the start of Afterschool Academy and training at each center. Track Study Hall Aide hours for their respective schools. Center Buddy Outcome(s): Assist the center team in achieving their center deliverables. Serve as extra support at center events or outings. Assist as needed with phone calls or presentations. Act as extra support in the event of low staff attendance. Conduct observations of center. Serve as a scholar mentor, if needed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: * Must be 18 years of age or older* High school or GED* Citizenship or proof of legal residency* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent * Dynamic, flexible, culturally sensitive applicants with positive personalities required * Previous experience as a regular volunteer/mentor or experience working with youth strongly preferred* Strong attention to details* Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is regularly performed in an office environment and a school setting, with occasional trips off-site to parks, museums, etc. Employee may spend long periods of time sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to walk from one part of the worksite to another and climb stairs. Employee regularly lifts, carries, and positions objects weighting up to 20 pounds. Position involves regular use of a computer and keyboard, telephone, and face-to-face communication in small and large group settings with youth and adults; employee must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in all of these situations. Employee must have visual, auditory, and physical ability to respond quickly to critical incidents involving students and act in an emergency situation.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position will begin on September 1, 2021 and end on August 31, 2022. AmeriCorps members work Monday through Friday with some Saturday hours for volunteer recruitment events. The Volunteer Recruitment Fellow will receive a living allowance of $21,000 designed to help meet the necessary living expenses incurred while participating in the AmeriCorps Program. Upon successful completion of 1700 hours of service, the Member will receive an education award in the amount of $6,095. Additional benefits include health insurance and periodic professional development trainings.
