Job Title (Essential) Peer Specialist (Adult Mental Health Case Management) - Fredericksburg Job Description 1. Promotes the services of the RACSB by providing information in terms that recipients of services and their families can understand. 2. Assists individuals in identifying and connecting to community resources. 3. Educates individuals in WRAP planning and recovery principles. 4. Monitor individual service plans in collaboration with the individual, his/her family, and other service providers. 5. Provides supportive counseling. 6. Collaborates with treatment staff concerning individual progress and concerns. 7. Records progress and reports health, safety and other concerns regarding the individual to appropriate staff members. 8. Exercises and maintains personal Wellness Recovery Action Plan. 9. Facilitates individual and group WRAP , wellness, and recovery services. 10. Transports individuals and escorts them to medical and other services. 11. Physically assists individuals who may be of limited mobility Communicates with family members and other concerned parties on behalf of the residents. 12. Participates in trainings on peer support topics and services. 13. Provides supportive atmosphere for individuals receiving services. 14. Does related work as assigned. Job Category Mental Health Services Job Duties and Responsibilities Provides direct support through developing peer-to-peer relationships, sharing personal recovery experiences, enabling and monitoring their Wellness and Recovery Action Plan ( WRAP ) to seriously mentally ill individuals served by the agency in a variety of institutional or at-home settings. This position is responsible for bringing the perspective of an individual who has been the recipient of mental health treatment services to the Behavioral Health Pandemic Response Team, a special project of the Adult Mental Health Case Management Team. This team is designed to provide intensive services to persons with serious and persistent mental illness who have experienced an increase in symptoms and/or isolation in response to the COVID -19 pandemic. Work is performed under regular supervision and is guided by well-established and specific agency policies and procedures and ethical standards related to client interactions. Position Status Full-time Required Qualifications High School Diploma, personal experience and knowledge of the wellness and recovery process and considerable experience in providing formal peer/recovery support services. Valid Virginia driver's license. DMAS qualified Paraprofessional. Certification in CELT . Certification as Peer Specialist. Completion of Wellness and Recovery Action Plan ( WRAP ). WRAP Facilitator Certification within 6 months of appointment. First Aid/ CPR , Therapeutic Options, Valid VA driver's license. Thorough understanding of the WRAP process, principles and other recovery techniques; considerable knowledge of the principles and components of recovery; considerable knowledge of individual supportive counseling practices and techniques including crisis intervention; considerable knowledge of the medical providers, social services and other agencies and community organizations providing services to the individual population; considerable knowledge of individual management guidelines for Virginia; ability to utilize one's personal mental health recovery experience to support individuals in developing his or her Wellness and Recovery Action Plans and foster rapport and positive interactions with individual's receiving services; ability to observe and record individual behaviors and functioning; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff of the agency and of other private and public agencies and organizations; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to operate a vehicle; ability to function calmly in crisis situations; ability to prepare and maintain detailed records. Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands Work involves considerable exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions such as the requirements to interact with clients having unsanitary behaviors, poor hygiene and contagious illness and/or are abusive, aggressive and potentially violent in unsafe or unsanitary residences or other locations; drive a vehicle, and/or transport clients in inclement, if not severe weather; occasionally physically assist and/or lift adults.
