AST and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet on land, at sea and in flight. The Software Engineer will be responsible for leading the effort to create a software-only simulation of our spacecraft. Initially, this will include managing a small team of contractors who will be contributing to the project, and then after that being the sole owner of the simulator. Minimum Requirements US Citizen or Permanent resident card holder Proficient with modern C++, ideally C++17 Proficient with using the C++ standard library Proficient with creating and using different build systems (Visual Studio, CMake, Make, etc) Proficient with Git Proficient in GNU toolchain Proficient working in a Windows and Linux environment Comfortable with C programming Comfortable with networking concepts Some level of familiarity with concepts of embedded programming such as: Serial interfaces Registers Timers Cross-Compiling Ability to serve as the technical lead for a software team including vendor-provided developers Ability to work in a remote, distributed team Preferred Requirements Familiar with concepts of Embedded Software Familiar with ARM architecture Experience with spacecraft or other real-time systems Experience with UI development Experience with porting software from one architecture to another Experience with simulating hardware in software Experience with creating simulators of any kind Equal Opportunity Employer; employment is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.
