We're looking for an influential engineering leader to provide strategic direction on initiatives with significant bottom line impact. This role provides a considerable opportunity for ingenuity, as this individual will work as a key leader of an exceptionally talented team, to deliver cutting edge innovation at a massive scale.

We are looking for an independent thinker who makes convincing, evidence-based, consensus oriented decisions. The ideal candidate will devise clear roadmaps to fruition and is comfortable thinking strategically and diving deep; a vanguard leader who can identify opportunities and leverage the team to translate them into live solutions.

The Director, Software Engineering role also plays a key role in the development and deployment of innovative big data platforms for advance analytics and data processing. This role defines and builds the data pipelines that will enable faster, better, data-informed decisions-making for Capital One.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with partner teams to integrate existing technologies and surface new requirements
  • Build a highly available, scalable platform with the customer at the center.
  • Work with analysts and product owners to deliver products in an Agile, DevOps, and collaborative environment
  • Grow technical teams, be a caring manager of people, and present to technology & business audiences
  • Provide dependable, customer-oriented support
  • Raise the bar for technical excellence and people management practices
  • Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to construct a product delivery strategy, reasonable roadmaps, and timelines
  • Crisply communicate our strategy, status, and initiatives with partners and engineers and strongly influence positive key outcomes
  • Navigate the organization as necessary to unblock the team and ensure timely delivery
  • Lead the engineering & architecture for resilient cloud-native, data-driven solutions with cutting edge technologies to meet the needs of our organization, users, and internal strategic partners
  • Partner with product management teams to establish product strategy and lead technical teams across the enterprise to enable the vision
  • Work with leaders of other products in the ecosystem to ensure integration patterns are well-understood, well-defined, and well-engineered
  • Evaluate technical products within portfolio for eligibility for inner-sourcing, open sourcing, and commercial monetization
  • Understand design, architecture, code across multiple technologies and provide technical guidance to team members
  • Lead strategy and operational delivery of business critical platforms and services using modern technologies

Basic qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years' experience in software development
  • At least 5 years' of experience managing technical teams
  • At least 3 years' of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud services


Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • 5+ years' experience working with Amazon Web Services
