Summary

The incumbent performs technical duties requiring practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer engineering principles as they relate to the control of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including chilled water plants, hot water heating systems, and air handling systems. Incumbent will utilize their knowledge to analyze, evaluate, and draw conclusions in order to troubleshoot, repair and modify complex HVAC control systems.

Responsibilities

The incumbent:

Troubleshoots electronic and pneumatic control systems and components using software based programming tools, electric multi-meters, and other common hand held calibration and testing devices used in the HVAC field.

Uses technical engineering data, wiring schematics and blueprints to analyze and understand the design and operation of complex mechanical and electrical systems.

Independently carries out maintenance and repair on in-service HVAC systems including DDC controls.

Reports on progress of technical assignments to management. Makes written and oral presentations of results to all interested and affected parties.

Calibrates field instrumentation to restore manufacturer's stated accuracy.

Programs, edits and implements software control strategies in DDC controller hardware using Tridium NiagaraAX Workbench programming tool for Tridium JACE controllers.

Utilizes maintenance software program to receive repair and maintenance assignments and document completed tasks.

The work is primarily performed in galleries, offices, and mechanical/electrical equipment rooms. Safety hazards are encountered at installation, repair and operational areas requiring use of proper safety equipment. Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. Maybe required to participate in respirator and other health programs that relate to exposure to dust, asbestos, lead and etc. The incumbent is expected to sustain superior performance in a fast paced environment under constant pressure to meet changing requirements and demanding deadlines. Work may require climbing ladders, scaffolding and platforms

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for GS-802-10 . This requires at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience in troubleshooting, analyzing, evaluating system performance for major HVAC electronic controls, mechanical systems and electric power systems.

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for GS-802-11 . This requires at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience in troubleshooting, analyzing, evaluating system performance for major HVAC electronic controls, mechanical systems and electric power systems.

1. Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical HVAC systems using computer software applications.

2. Skill in developing technical reports, briefing materials and presentations.

3. Ability to perform redesigns and design modifications to HVAC control systems.

4. Knowledge of computer communication networks, electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering as well as familiarity with other engineering fields/disciplines to analyze and make recommendations on technical engineering data and maintenance plans.
