Summary

This position is in the Business Management Group in the Office of Human Resources located in Washington, DC.

This is a temporary appointment , not-to-exceed one year. This appointment may be extended without further competition based on the need of the organization for the work to continue and provided the selectee continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service by addressing frequently asked questions (FAQs) in programs supported and respond to inquiries on status updates.
  • Support the processing of actions and/or time and attendance systems (e.g., Federal Personnel and Payroll System, webTA).
  • Inform or provide feedback to the program managers/owners on inquiry trends so they can update FAQs and/or content to help mitigate inquiries.
  • Maintain automated databases in order to track information and extract data to generate documents, records, and reports.
  • Review and prepare correspondence, maintain case files, respond to customer inquiries, and provide a variety of information as appropriate.
  • Perform preliminary analysis of reports to identify historical trends, quality control issues, and offer recommendations based on data analysis.

  • PATHWAYS AGREEMENT: You will be required to sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement.
  • ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENT: You must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution pursuing a degree or certificate.
  • PROOF OF ENROLLMENT: You must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term.
  • STUDENT STATUS: You must maintain status as a current student while on this appointment.
  • WORK SCHEDULES: Interns may work full-time during the summer and flexible part-time work schedules during the school year (based on agency needs) while continuing their education.
  • The anticipated start date of this position is July 2021. You must meet the definition of a "student" currently and after this date to be eligible for hire.
  • Due to COVID-19, the SEC is currently in a mandatory telework posture through September 7, 2021. If selected, you will be permitted to temporarily telework from a location outside the local commuting area.
  • Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within 60 days. At that time, you will be eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.


Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for this internship under the Pathways Internship Program:
  • You must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate at a qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis (as determined by the educational institution); AND
  • You must possess a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program.

Note : A "certificate program" is defined as a post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

In order to qualify for this position at the grade GS/SK-07 level you must possess at least one of the following:

(A.) One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-05. Specialized experience includes the following: (1) using various computer software programs to perform such operations as updating, revising, sorting, calculating, and manipulating data in spreadsheets; and (2) gathering, inputting, and verifying a variety of data needed for analysis or reports.
OR
(B.) One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Educational fields may include Business Administration, General Studies, Public Administration, etc.
OR
(C.) Completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree and claim Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Superior Academic Achievement is based on: (1) Class Standing - You must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) - You must have a grade point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR (3) Honor Society Membership - You may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.

(D.) A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

Selectee for this position is ineligible for life insurance and retirement (including the Thrift Savings Plan).

As a federal employee, selectee is eligible to receive a transit subsidy each month to compensate them for their travel to and from work via certain types of public transportation.

Conversion Eligibility to the Competitive Service: You may be converted, without a break in service, to a permanent or term (time-limited) appointment upon graduation as long as you meet the following criteria: (1) complete at least 640 hours of work experience in an appropriate program; (2) complete a degree or certificate program; (3) meet the qualification standards for the position to which to be converted; (4) receive a recommendation for retention from a supervisor; and (5) meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant Agreement.
