Job Announcement

The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information. In collaboration with the School Health Coordinator, assists with coordinating the activities of the Fairfax County Health Department School Health services. Develops and implements strategies to incorporate a process for continual quality improvement in the School Health program, with the goal of improving health outcomes and supporting academic success among the student population. Acts as a subject matter expert in regard to the application of policies and procedures for staff to support the School Health Program Coordinator in the implementation and coordination of all program activities and requirements. Promotes individual and population health by assuring the quality and accessibility of health services, preventing the spread of disease, promoting and encouraging health behaviors, and responding to disasters and assisting communities in recovery.

Note: Health Department positions are designated as emergency responders in the event of a public health crisis. As a public health emergency responder, this position may be reassigned to provide support based on the emergency response service needs. The temporary reassignment may require employees to function in a role outside of the typical job duties. The emergency response may also require employees to work alternative work schedules to include weekend and evenings.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus three years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including two years in a public health/community health setting; plus at least one year experience in a public health/community health specialty area or supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Driver's License
AED-Required within 60 days
CPR -Required within 60 days

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates demonstrate the skills necessary to evaluate performance outcomes for a program and implement improvement plans. Two years of experience working with school aged children in a health related capacity. One year of experience monitoring and evaluating program goals and objectives. Possess ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to multi-task and prioritize work. Experience working with ethnically diverse populations. Must possess experience collecting and analyzing data to make informed decisions. Ideal candidate will have at least one year of direct supervisory experience overseeing, monitoring, and directing the work of others. Proven team leadership skills with a commitment to development of staff.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a driving record check, a Child Protective Services Registry, and a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
