Job Announcement

Serves as the supervisor of the Civil Status Docket Section of the Circuit Court. Assigns and reviews the completed work of administrative staff to ensure proper compliance with legal and administrative requirements. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Resolves unusual or difficult problems referred by the staff.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Code of Virginia as it pertains to the Civil Status Docket Section.
  • Interviews, selects, and trains new employees.
  • Schedules work, approves time and attendance, and prepares performance evaluations.
  • Coaches, develops, and disciplines staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation; plus four years of experience providing administrative support, technical support, customer service, or working in a court or legal environment.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
  • Demonstrated experience providing administrative support.
  • Experience working in a court or law firm.
  • Organizational and leadership skills.
  • Supervisory training and/or experience.
  • Experience in training staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, initiative, creativity, and independent judgment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift boxes, files and push a cart weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to input and retrieve data from a computer and copy and scan court documents. Ability to type at least 30 WPM due to high volume of documents. Ability to sit at a desk or on a counter stool or stand for long periods of time. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
