Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising and conducting instructional programs which include but are not limited to learn to swim, competitive swimming, master's level swimming, water safety, CPR/AED, first aid, and lifeguard training. Ensures proper scheduling and coordination of programs with the Aquatics Program Manager. Submits necessary manpower and equipment requirements to the Aquatics Program Manager. Notifies the Aquatics Program Manager of any recommended action deemed necessary to correct discrepancies and prepares other related activity and incident reports. Assist in the supervision of daily pool operations and its administrative functions. Ensures task given are accomplished by the assigned lifeguards/swimming instructors. Conducts, on an as-needed basis, instruction for Aquatics and Semper Fit personnel.

Relays instructions from supervisor. Demonstrates work methods to Aquatics Staff and provides work-related guidance. Ensures worksite materials and tools are available to complete work. Reports workplace injuries immediately to the Aquatics Program Manager and designated personnel as outlined in the Aquatics Program Emergency Action Plan. Ensures personnel comply with Facility and Industry Regulations. Conducts on-the-job training and instructions for both Aquatics and Semper Fit staff. May perform supervisory duties for Aquatics Program in an emergency, or on short-term and non-recurring basis.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the Aquatics Program Manager or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the Aquatics Program Manager. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Three years' experience in aquatics. Must be able to certify in all levels of basic swimming and lifesaving up to instructor proficiency. Must be familiar with swimming pool operations and the equipment involved. Mature and capable of exercising sound judgment in performing their duties. Must be able to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and/or holidays on a rotating basis. Must be able to perform heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and walking. Must be able to work as assigned without close supervision. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance as well as meet the current AMR Lifeguard Swim Qualification. Must maintain current certification as follows;

Required Certifications:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

Preferred Certifications:
  • National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator or Equivalent
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

If required certification is not current, must be able to demonstrate ability through both past experience/certification and a skill test as well as obtain current certification within 6 months of hire. May be required to obtain additional certification as per the needs of the Aquatics and Semper Fit Programs.
