Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a sound and studio engineer to join its growing audio team as its technical lead, responsible for ensuring the sound quality of our podcasts and helping to manage The Post's studio spaces.

This person will be responsible for mixing and mastering several podcast episodes per week, including our most ambitious long-form work. This engineer will collaborate with producers on sound design and scoring and maintain relationships with music and sound libraries. Significant experience working in Pro Tools is a must. 

This person will also serve as the in-house expert on recording tools and technologies. They will manage our equipment inventory and troubleshoot technical issues, make recommendations on equipment purchases, and train producers and reporters on best practices for recording, including working with reporters who might be new to audio or have limited equipment. 

This person must have a high level of expertise about equipment and software for studio recording, field recording and remote recording, including experience troubleshooting technical issues with studio wiring and sound board setups, and have an interest in using that knowledge to develop solutions that best serve the unique needs of The Post.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, the position will not be eligible for remote work.
