Job Announcement

As the sole network analyst in a Microsoft Server and Microsoft Office environment in a dynamic and deadline-driven office, provides technical assistance to staff including hardware/software installations and troubleshooting, network connectivity, printer support, training, and IT procurement approval. In addition, serves as the agency's mainframe administrator and Agency Information Security Coordinator (AISC). The ideal candidate must be able to quickly assist users in solving systems problems and be able to translate technical terminology into terms easily understood by management and employees with varying technological skills. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides immediate support to troubleshoot technological problems to ensure seamless delivery of legal services.
  • Coordinates and performs hardware and software upgrades to networked resources as required to maintain up-to-date compatibility and information security.
  • Researches, tests and makes recommendations regarding the purchase of new applications.
  • Supports development efforts as requested.
  • Enforces County and agency computer security policies and acts as the agency's liaison to the County's Information Technology Department.
  • Administers the agency's case management system (Prolaw).
  • Creates and maintains security preferences, document assembly, professional setup, reporting, and data integrity.
  • Designs/implements a disaster recovery plan and is an integral member of the Emergency Preparedness/COOP team.
  • Administers hardware and software inventory management to track renewal and refresh schedules, selects and procures new and replacement hardware and software; and oversees deployment schedules.
  • Serves as a system administrator to ensure the agency's application systems run efficiently by configuring and maintaining Windows Server, partnering with application vendors to install software releases and patches, and coordinates with other county IT teams to make infrastructure and network service changes.
  • Oversees Active Directory Organization Units (OUs), and associated agency groups.
  • Translates technical terminology into terms understandable to management and employees, including development of help sheets, usage guides, and frequently asked questions (FAQs) for end users.
  • Serves as the Office of County Attorney's (OCA) Agency Information Security Coordinator to ensure alignment and compliance to county information security policy, and acts as the primary liaison to the Fairfax County Department of Information Technology.

  • Schedules vendors and appropriate staff;
  • Evaluates projects for cost effectiveness and current and future usability;
  • Assists in the planning of distributed local area networks;

  • Establishes backup and recovery procedures;
  • Installs, repairs, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades PC's, LANs, and related equipment and software;

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Possession of an associate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field; plus three years of network and/or telecommunications experience; or a bachelor's degree in such fields; plus one year of experience in network or telecommunications system design, analysis, installation, and troubleshooting.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, SQL, networking, iOS/Android technologies and hardware/software troubleshooting.
  • Previous IT experience in a law office environment.
  • Experience with the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) and e-discovery platforms.
  • Ability to communicate complex, technical matters in both formal and informal situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively using a project oriented team approach.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional(MCP) and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
  • Strong communication and professional interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships, and to work well with others while under pressure.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
  • This position is considered essential and incumbent may be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather or other occasions when emergency leave is declared.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on compute monitor. Ability to operatekeyboard driven equipment. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
